"you got growin up to do" as written by and Joshua Ryan Radin....
I've been down this road before
I walk out the door
Leave you on the floor
Sometimes you run and hide
Your foolish prides
What keeps me from giving you more

So the best thing
I can give to you
Is for me to go
Leave you alone
Cause you got growin' up to do

Some day I'll return when it's time
For payment in kind
The church bells'll chime
You'll stand before me surrounded by lights
Dressed in white
You'll throw flowers in the air
This night

Looks like the rain's pouring down on me
It's drowning me now
All I want is to come back home
This old corduroy coat
It's not keeping me dry
But I can't think of what else to try

[Chorus: x2]

General CommentI think the story is pretty self explanatory but to add my two cents,i seen him live last week in dublin and he talked about most of his songs b4 he played them. When speaking about this he said he was going out with a really great girl who he was madly in love with and still is,but the time wasnt right and that he still hopes that somewhere down the line, maybe 10 yrs or whenever that they will still end back up together.was kinda romantic,he had every girl in the venue weak at the knees....

General Commenti personally love this ever since i heard it... rather watched his performance of it on Ellen. I Think the meaning is pretty straight forward... He is simply telling a girl who he has feelings for, that its not the right time.. and that she's "got growing up to do"

General CommentWow...this song really is amazing, but what Radin song isnt? the guy is truly a musician and a poet. This song is about someone who the writer is in love with, but knows he cant be with until they grow up. But the moment she does grow up, then he'll return and marry her. Its just great

General CommentThis song tells a story - maybe I'm not right for you right now, but maybe someday I will be...

Maybe we're not right for each other right now, but give it time, you go grow up and i will too, and we'll see how life unfolds

That's what it means to me...

General CommentI think this song is talking about how he likes a girl but hes gotten frustrated because she is too immature. So he feels its just best to leave and try to forget about liking her and let her grow up. he seems irritated.

General CommentI don't think he's directly talking about immaturity. What he's singing about is a girl he loves, who is too prideful and won't let him get close. As much as it pains him, he leaves her alone to grow up a bit and realize what a fool she's being. Until "it's time for payment in kind". Until she will humble herself and love him in return.

General CommentThis song is great. I love the part where it goes:
"So the best thing I can give to you
    Is for me to go
    Leave you alone
You got growing up to do."
It's such a sad part and it just makes me think of the maturity of people in a relationship and how it often seems mismatched.

I listened to the new version with Patty Griffin from 'Simple Times' for the first time yesterday and I sat with like my eyes wide and my mouth open, I just found it so amazing. The harmony is so sweet and it's just a brilliant new version of the song.

General CommentThis is one of my favorite josh radin songs. I was lucky enough to see him perform it live.

Although the obvious meaning is that he is singing about a lost love, i feel like it could also deal with drifting away friends/family
