Leaving Today Lyrics

Mama's leavin' today
It didn't take as long as I thought it would
And there's mounds of clay
In the backyard where our playground once stood

He left months ago
With his college bags, his overcoat, and his clothes
And I'm stuck down here
Still talking to all the people that he knows
To all the people that he knows

And in this background
The colors change
From green to blue
From blue to purple
Purple to red
And in my head
And in my head
Blue
Purple

In an interview with Sam and Jill they said a lot of the songs on this album are about when they were fighting and they had to move to different parts of the country. And a lot of the songs are about that. So I'd say that this is about how Jill felt that Sam didn't really care about her at this time and that she wishes he'd realize she is important to him. I am not sure, I am not so sure they are even an item. I always thought no, but who knows. If its about some other guy, who is this dude that keeps hurting Jill? She's awesome.
