it's a situation where two people are so attached, in spite of the futility of the relationship. the narrator is the stronger of the two, pushing the other away. but he shows his weakness in saying that all she would have to do is come back for them to return to it all.

Great song and amazing video... it gives me a really different feeling when i see that vid... hard to describe but its both a good and bad feeling... if that makes anysense at all :S

It doesn't get much better than this. I don't actually like most of their songs, but the notes and lyrics in this song hit you like a train.
I have the same interpretation as tabularasa. I pushed her away many years ago and I've always wanted for her to return and I always will, even though the relationship would be as futile now as it was then. This song does hit me like a train.
