'Cross the Breeze Lyrics
sex drugs and sonic youth
This song is painfully under-rated. I personally think it's the best song off DDN.
Defninitley a strong contender.

"just like every other Sonic Youth song"
fuck off, moron
this song looks kinda sex-related(don't most their songs?),but when kim shout out "i wanna know i wanna know",her voice is...it definitely mean something.it sounds very sad, angry and also scared.
yes because of course it has to be one or the other rolls eyes
This might seem explaination too simple, but I think it's about wanting to know what to do with yourself. She keeps saying 'i wanna know', and makes a comment about the future. She asking someone to come with her somewhere, like she doesn't want to be alone when she's trying to figure things out.
I like this explanation .. that's how it sounds to me. Partly it reminds me of waking up the next day with someone perhaps you don't know very well?

/No need to be scared Let's jump into the day I wanna know I think I oughta go/

She wants to be certain about how she feels but has no idea.

Sometimes I think this is the best song of all time.
@glitcHead hahaha, great man!!

whats this song about? according to kim, "flirting with the devil"
I think this song is about being saved. The reference to walking on water could be referring to Jesus, then midway in the verse when she says "you think i'm satans daughter" is referring to her being judged based on the things she does. The fact that she doesn't want to go burning 'cross the breeze' could be referring to going to hell. Especially because the guitars and drums get hectic towards the end. I love it. haha

I highly highly doubt Sonic Youth would write anything pro-Christian given their very progressive leanings. If anything, the song seems to be loosely about how women who are sexually powerful are marginalized, which is kind of what half of Kim's songs are about. The "walking on water" part is I think meant to highlight the difference between the female speaker and the male Jesus. Jesus walks on water so he's the son of Christ. The speaker walks on water so she's the daughter of Satan.

ideas of religion, nationality, even language, time frame are irrelevant.... as an... immortal or myth...
In this encounter while walking (moving, drifting thinking along ...)
close your eyes and make believe you can do whatever you please...
consider but not limit to: "Make, Be, Leave"
imagine yourself... manifest, then go on, be on your way fly fly fly...
should i stay or go... the presence of Kim (or whomever one may interpret the voice to be)
is considering that if the receiver is not ready, receptive, engaging, that she may as well go...
the truth is not conceivable... for everyone, or delusional security may be hard to part with... so,
"I think I ought to go..."
I'm trying for the future... just as Christ, funny that way, haha still work to be done, not there yet...
the human condition, where we should be able to walk on water, even if in make belief...
I took a look into the hate
It made me feel very up to date
yes still work left to be done...
the answer is blowin' in the wind...
My first thought is that it fits perfectly to lucid dreaming and 'out of body experience'
Theres alot of drug references in this song and/or images of hallucination: "lets go walking on the water" etc which could also be a biblical reference but then there is also the references to relationship's "should i stay or go?" but that could be about her trying to get off drugs....maybe.
