The coolest nigga, what
Lord please have sympathy
And forgive Michael Young history as
The coolest nigga, what
I love the Lord
But sometimes it's like that I love me more
I love the peace and I love the war
I love the seas and I love the shore
No love for no beach baby, that's law
But she doesn't see therefore, I spoil
I trick, I fall, run up in raw
I love her with all my heart
Every vein, every vessel, every bullet lodged
With every flower that I ever took apart
She said that she would give me greatness, status
Placement above the others
My face would grace covers
Of the magazines of the hustlers
Paper, the likes of which that I had never seen
Her eyes glow green with the logo of our dreams
The purpose of our scene
The obscene obsession for the bling
She would be my queen, I could be her king
Together, she would make me cool
And we would both rule
Forever
And I would never feel pain
And never be without pleasure, ever again
And if the reign stops and everything's dry
She would cry just so I can drink the tears from her eyes
She'd teach me how to fly, even cushion my fall
If my engines ever stall and I plummet from the sky
But she will keep me high, and if I ever die
She would commission monuments on her bosom to him
Or maybe she'd retire as well
A match made in Heaven, set the fires in Hell
And I'll be
The coolest nigga, what
Lord please have sympathy
And forgive Michael Young history as
The coolest nigga, what
And so began our reign
The Trinity: Her and I, caine
No weather man could ever stand when her and I came
Hella hard, umbrella, whatever
Put plywood over Pella panes
And pray to God that the flood subside
Cause you gon' need a sub til he does reply
And not one of Jared's you think it's all arid
And e'eryt'ing's irie, another supply
That means another July inside my endless summer
That was just the eye of the Unger, Felix
Cause he is the cleanest amongst the
Younger outstanding achieving up-and-comers
The ones that had deadbeat daddies and well-to-do mommas
But not well enough to keep 'em from us
The ones that were fighting in class who might not pass
Rap record pressured to laugh at a life not fast
Can you feel it?
Is what I got asked
Do I love her?
Said, I don't know
Streets got my heart, Game got my soul
One time missing sunshine will never hurt your soul
Quote to a crying, dishonored baby mama
Who's the mama to the daughter that I had fathered from afar
My new lady gave me a Mercedes and a necklace with a solid gold key
Like the starter of a car, the opener of a door, or two pounds of raw
You gave me a baby, but what about lately?
Then ha-ha-ha-ha-ha'd right up in her face, G
There's more fish in the sea
I'm on my mission to be
The coolest nigga, what
Lord please have sympathy
And forgive Michael Young history as
The coolest nigga, what
Come, these are the tales of The Cool
Guaranteed to go and make you fail from your school
And seek unholy grails like a fool
And hang with the players of the pool
Fast-talking of the hustle
No heaven up above you, no hell underneath ye
And no one will receive thee
So shed no tear when we're not here
And keep your faith as we chase
The Cool
Lord please have sympathy
And forgive Michael Young history as

The Cool - December 18th- prolly one of the best CDs you'll ever have the privilege of hearing.
She would make me cool, and we would both rule, forever
And I would never feel pain
And never be without pleasure, ever, again
And if the rain stops, and everything's dry
She would cry, just so I could drink the tears from her eyes

His assumption of a great lover and perfect relationship is the metaphor with people and the streets...they think that the streets is what they need in life. The characteristics of the Streets show the access of alcohol and drugs on well....the streets.
Every vein, every vessel...
With every flower..."
This has a great double meaning in the fact that a heart has blood pumped into it by veins and blood vessels and a flower has veins (the lines on leaves) and vessels (a canal in the stem of a plant or flower).
And does anyone know what the noise of someone walking and chains clinking are right before the main beat starts??
"He came back
In the same suit that he was buried in
Similar to the one his grand father was married in
Yes... he was still fresh to death
bling, two ear-rings, a chain laying on his chest
He still had it cuz they couldn't find it
And the bullets from his enemies sat like two inches behind it
smelled the Hennesy from when his niggas got reminded
and poured out liquor in his memory, he didn't mind it, But...
He couldn't sip it fast enough
So the liquor was just filling the casket up
floating down by his feet was the letter from his sister
Second Grade hand-writing simply read "I miss ya"
Suit jacket pocket held his baby daughter's picture
Right next to it one of his man's stuck a swisher
He had a notion as he laid there soaking
Saw that the latch was broken, he kicked his casket open
and he..."
thats the first verse of "The Cool"
there are biographies for three characters:
The Game: which is the desire for infamy and success
The Streets: The allure and an alternate illicit route to success
The Cool: Michael Young History's like soul...
I chose to explicate Lupe Fiasco's lyrics as a poetry project for my AP English class...you guys helped me out alot XD
thanks so much haha
the albulm is basically about Michael Young ( and coincidently I believe Lupe Fiascos Michale Young=My cool Young) relationship with these enticing characters...its crazy how his whole entire album can be kind of like a biography of not just Michael Young's life but so many characters lives through out history...and how they have strayed off the path easily chasing fame.
I couldn't understand the part where he is like:
"and if I ever die She would commission monuments on her bosom, to him "
but if you read The Streets' biography on the website and look through the booklet it talks about how she tattoos of those she has had an affair with on her chest...and if you look closely in the booklet you can see the names tattooed there like Roger Clemens'.
also this part:
"and everything's irie, anoth' supply
That means anoth' July inside my endless summer"
it means like everything is going good because he recieved another supply "another july, my endless summer," refers to the movie, "The Endless summer"
Its title comes from the last line in the film, which expresses the idea that if one had enough time and money it would be possible to follow the summer around the world, making it endless. this links Paris/Tokyo in the album back to this song...
"no weatherman" said quick sounds like no other man:
"No weather man could ever stand where her and I came"
which refers back to the need just for success but to be THE GREATEST.
and when he is talking about magazines:
"Above the others, my face with grace covers of the magazines
Of the hustlers, PAPER, the likes of which
That I had never seen,"
paper is the perfect transition because it is the name of a magazine.
seas and shore in the first line arent= seas and shore
seas=sieze which means the appeal
shore=sure which means the confidence
which is like how people feel like they are more confident when they are carrying a piece and the danger and the lifestyle of a gangster is appealing because it brings fame and $$$
then when he says "No love for no Beach" he is affirming that he isn't talking about the beach at all, because he just said he loves the seas and the shore...which would be a beach, but in the same verse says that he doesn't love the beach...
GOTTA LOVE LUPE...there is so much more but I would be glued to my computer if I didn't leave it right now.
"I love the Lord"
I always thought he was saying "I love the law"
"But sometimes it's like that I love me more"
He likes laws and order, but not if it gets in the way of what he wants.
"I love the peace and I love the war"
Peace as in piece as in gun. This agrees with the previous line, going against the law for selfish reasons, using guns and war as he pleases.
"I love the seas and I love the shore"
This connects back to both parts. Seas represent adventure and danger, meaning the war. Shores represent safety.
"No love for no beach, baby that's law"
A beach is the seas and shore combined, which is the edge of danger and safety, and to him that's what the law acts as. Beach also sounds like bitch, so he could be saying that there's a woman who's stopping him from being "Cool" and this is the one whose back he turns on to go to the Streets.
I love the immense amounts of double meanings and how it makes perfect sense both ways. The amount of intellectual music contained in those few lines far outmatches almost every single song in existence.
The end of the last verse explains it
"The ones that were, fighting in class, who might not pass
Rap record pressured to laugh, at a life not fast"
The the kids who weren't smart fell the have no choice but to be hustlers because of the way rap is today and pushing for these drug dealing hustlers
"Can you feel it? [echo], that's what I got asked
Do I love her? [echo], said I don't know"
his REAL woman asking if he feels the baby in her stomach and asking if he loved her
"Streets got my heart, Game got my soul"
Self explainitory
"One time missing sunshine will never hurt your soul"
If he loses his "sunshine" his REAL girl telling her it's not gonna hurt him
"Quote: To a crying dishonored baby mama
Who's the mama to a daughter that I had fathered from afar"
Now this woman is crying and he's just disgusting on the next line
"My new lady gave me a Mercedes and a necklace
With a solid gold key (ki) like the starter of a car"
The streets being his other lady gave him some "cool" things so why would he need his baby's mother. Also lady could mean white lady as in coke. she also got him a gold key or ki as in kilo of coke
"The opener of a door or two pounds of raw"
The gold key to open a door or 2 pounds of raw drugs
"You gave me a baby, but what about lately?
Then ha-ha-ha-ha-haw'ed, right up in her face, G
There's more fish in the sea, I'm on my mission to be, be"
He now then laughs at the real woman leaving her for "the streets" because it's what's more important to be cool... he'll find another girl.
is a refrance to another song called "sunshine" in which a man meets sees a woman and its basicly love at first sight. and the "hurt your soul" part is a refrance to his song called "hurt me soul" where he describes things that well....hurt his or other ppls souls.
also i think that that line is being said by the Streets, shes telling him basicly "if you stand sunshine up or ditch her just this once it wont be something to complain about."
Lupe should write a book...lol
"She would be my queen, I could be her king..."
Possible mistakes-
'I trick I fall, run up and raw' might be-
'I trip, I fall run up and brawl.'
The bitch/beach line is the other way around. He says beach but he means bitch.
It's 'well-to do mommas.'
And 'nowhere' will recieve thee, not 'no-one'.
One of my favorite songs. Love the plays on words.
There's a second voice speaking during the line "But not well enough to keep 'em from us", as well as the outro.
Anyway, I'm thinkin this is about Michael Young History's love of The Streets. It starts out with all the things she can do for him, make him "The Coolest," ('Teach me how to fly, even cushion my fall...') and by the second verse, he's left his previous love and his child for her ('You gave me a baby, but what about lately?'). Third verse is mostly there because I think this is the first song on the album that actually deals with the storyline, so it's kind of like the intro to what's to come. Won't find out for sure until it's actually released on the 18th...
"That was just the eye of the Unger
Felix, 'cause he is the -cleanest- amongst the younger"
Why does Lupe put lines that aren't accessable to the average listener in his songs? I guess thats what makes him the best.
Lupe Isn't Out To Bring In More Fans Then The Next Or Make It To Where Everyone Can Understand Him. He Does What A Lot Of Other 'Rappers' Don't... Which Is CLAIM The Title Of An Artist. He Makes His Music Which Is His Art Using His Own Visions And Ideas. Once That Is Done, It Doesn't Matter About His Fame. He'll Never 'Dumb It Down' For Mainstream Listeners! He Is Amazing!
That's precisely what gives him the right to make a song like 'Dumb it Down'
sorry for the essay, just i feel kinda passionate about the pursuit of knowledge :)
