Perspectives change along with growing old
You think time's gonna let you out in the cold
Morality is a fleeting ideal
And your judgement on me is underfelt

And I think I'm gonna lose again
Again

I like it when you cry to me
And I love it when you lie to me
And I love when your head bounces off the floor
Do you want, do you want some more?

I like it when you're proud of me
And I love it when you're mad at me
'Cause my reasoning is something to abhor

I see you crying and it makes my day
I hear you're great at something, then I'll just go away
And don't you worry, well I will always be here
Because it gets me off when I bring you so much pain
Oh I really wanna stop
But you just kept pushing me, pushing me back

I like it when you cry to me
And I love it when you lie to me
And I love when your head bounces off the floor
Do you want, do you want some more?

I like it when you're proud of me
And I love it when you're mad at me
'Cause my reasoning is something to abhor

Get out, get out, yeah get away
Get out, get out, yeah get away
Look out, look out, don't look at me
Don't look at me

SMILE

You got your wish, you've gotten rid of me
They're going to lock me up into a very bad place for me
Well don't you worry, well I will always be around
Right from when you take that first step out of bed on the ground

Because I love it when you lie
Oh you know you wanna lie
You know you really wanna lie
Come on, come on, why don't you lie to me?

I like it when you cry to me
And I love it when you lie to me
And I love it when your head bounces off the floor
Do you want just a little bit more?

I like it when you cry to me
And I love it when you're mad at me
'Cause my reasoning is something to abhor, abhor

I like it when you cry to me
And I love it when you lie to me
And I love it when your head bounces off the floor
BANG.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
