A place we tried to search a thousand times
To finally feel as if forever wasn't ever long enough
I was afraid

I feel a passion watching over me
To shed this
This evolution will empower me
Now truth begins

And you will not find me
(I am safe in here)
I'm where I want to be

It's a place where your wish will be granted
Come, you'll see I'm right
It's a force that will live on within you
Dark as day is night
It's a place where your dreams will be slanted
And will always be
It's a force that was sent out to win you
Just you wait and see

Take one step closer to the borderline
When night is taken back
This mortal coil is gone and left behind
On holy soil

And you will not find me,
(I am safe in here)
I'm where I want to be

It's a place where your wish will be granted
Come, you'll see I'm right
It's a force that will live on within you
Dark as day is night
It's a place where your dreams will be slanted
And will always be
It's a force that was sent out to win you
Just you wait and see

You will not find me
I am safe in here
I am where I want to be
So leave me now in peace

And you will not find me
(I am safe in here)
I'm where I want to be!

It's a place where your wish will be granted
Come, you'll see I'm right
It's a force that will live on within you
Dark as day is night
It's a place where your dreams will be sanctioned
And will always be
It's a force that was sent out to win you
Just you wait and see

    Song Meaning

This song was written by Simone Simons and according to her, it's about someone who died and believes he's in heaven, but he actually is in hell, but he feels good there, so this is where he belongs.

sancta terra...does it mean holy land? This song seems to me to be describing the hideout/utopia of a victim of a crime...maybe of rape or abuse...it's only in the place that s/he will feel save and protected...

Mmm this song. It's so beautiful. then again what song by Epica isn't? Simone's voice is so captivating, damn.

I think this song is about escaping reality, getting away from terror of some sort. Maybe it's somewhere she ran to after things got to hard and just wants to be left alone by all that had tormented her. possibly it's all in her mind like a dream world. 'I am safe in here' seems to make it seem more like a mental escape. The only safety from real life often is in the mind.

    My Interpretation

The lyrics are vague enough that I'm sure this could be taken several different ways. For me, this seems like a song describing a fall into acceptance of religion (from the point of view of an outside, atheist observer).

Sancta ~ holy, terra ~ everywhere on Earth.

I feel a passion watching over me - God/gods To shed this This evolution will empower me - interesting word choice. Are we shedding evolution or is the change to religion an empowering change? Now truth begins - religion works on paradoxical immutable truths.

It's a place where your dreams will be sanctioned - religion tells its followers what to believe And will always be - a reference to the permanence of religion or perhaps the eternities described in the teachings. It's a force that was sent out to win you - your weekly tithing, please, pass the tray! Just you wait and see - a reference to the hope that truth will one day show itself to the religious, or is this an allusion to afterlife?

Other verses can be seen through a similar lens. Maybe the context in the album provides a more specific/different meaning. Either way, this is just what I thought when listening/reading to this song.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
