This is one of my favorite songs. https://fnfgo.io
At the sharp end of the view
The edge of me and you
And all good sense that tread no further
And as the ghost will shiver trees
How I'm tremblin' on my knees
But I'm still drawn on by the the murmur
Are you laughing at me now?
In my circumstance
When still I wear your crown
My life's penitence
For what? What's so funny?
A Box full o' honey
What I thought a pretty tune
Was howling at the moon
To keep me company this evening
It's so lonely in the dirt
A scratching at the hurt
That I so generously did leave you
Are you laughing at me now?
In my circumstance
When still I where your crown
Some cruel penitence
For what? What's so funny?
A Box full o' honey
Is she flirting with me now?
Is she dallying with me now?
Are you flirting with me now?
You'll always be my queen of tumble down
Miss Melancholy
Are you laughing at me now?
In my circumstance
When still I wear your crown
And my life's a penitence
For what? What's so funny?
Ain't it funny?
A Box full o' honey
The edge of me and you
And all good sense that tread no further
And as the ghost will shiver trees
How I'm tremblin' on my knees
But I'm still drawn on by the the murmur
Are you laughing at me now?
In my circumstance
When still I wear your crown
My life's penitence
For what? What's so funny?
A Box full o' honey
What I thought a pretty tune
Was howling at the moon
To keep me company this evening
It's so lonely in the dirt
A scratching at the hurt
That I so generously did leave you
Are you laughing at me now?
In my circumstance
When still I where your crown
Some cruel penitence
For what? What's so funny?
A Box full o' honey
Is she flirting with me now?
Is she dallying with me now?
Are you flirting with me now?
You'll always be my queen of tumble down
Miss Melancholy
Are you laughing at me now?
In my circumstance
When still I wear your crown
And my life's a penitence
For what? What's so funny?
Ain't it funny?
A Box full o' honey

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
Blue
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
"Chronicles Volume 1" by Bob Dylan. John gave this to me. I like Dylan and I loved the Scorsese documentary about him. I like his music, you know, the whole singer songwriter thing, as I aspire to write songs like him. Listen to "Box Full of Honey" off our new album. I hope, maybe, there's a little Dylan in there." -Simon on duranduran.com/bookclub/
"How I'm tremblin' on my knees But I'm still drawn on by the the murmur"
Seems a bit similar around the edges to:
"Howling bloody murder but it's nothing just a murmur" -Skin Divers by Duran Duran
+
"Was howling at the moon to keep me company"
"Howling bloody murder but it's nothing just a murmur" -Skin Divers by Duran Duran
They seem to have the word "howling" in many of the songs on this album. It calls to mind "Hungry Like the Wolf".
Confusion in loneliness.
Duran Duran has always been my favorite band. Even though most people in my area view them as an '80's gay band (moron KISS fans), I’ve always loved their lyrics and melodies. I will always delight in signing any of their songs, this one, probably one of my favorites.
@alph No way gay...Most people think English men are all gay! Cracks me up<br />
