Don't piss down my back then tell me it is raining.

You just had to walk in before I kicked the table beneath my feet.
If I can't have any friends I thought why not hang from the ceiling.

Just because I ordered, doesn't mean I can't look at the menu.
Not that there's any other fish in this sea I'd rather have on my plate than you.
Just because I FUCKING ordered, doesn't mean I can't look at the menu.
Not that there's any other fish in this sea.

Don't drink and park, accidents in cars cause population.
Fuck "more the merrier" there's only one person I need to feel this sensation.

If you need directions you can take the road that's down my sleeve,
This time I'm taking you with me, but the cuffs are you; so good luck trying to leave!

I hope one day I can cross your ocean, without feeling the puncture of your teeth.
Believe me I'd rather drown myself, than knowing you have the power to pull me beneath.

There's so much oxygen that I forgot to breathe?
You're only making things worse, you're only making things worse (I find my self running backwards every time).(x2)

Fuck that I changed my fucking mind
Jesus loves you so I won't have to.(x2)

I hope you sleep softly with this pillow pressed against your face.(x2)

This song is probably about a relationship that you have no control over and seem to be "stuck" in where eventhough you can leave, you keep coming back. The person you are in love with is controlling and you keep telling yourself and that person that you could leave and look for someone else, yet you don't....and it becomes a vicious cycle. It's interesting how the band compares such a relationship to drinking or alcoholism...eventhough it isn't good for you...you keep coming back to it.

    Song Meaning

This goes with an alcoholic relationship of an anti alcohol bond. And sleep softly with the pillow pressed softly against your face is a metaphor for an air bag in a car accident.

They inspired me to make my music.

I think it's a relationship where one doesn't want the other one to see other people. Let's say the girl doesn't want the guy to see other people.

Don't piss down my back then tell me it is raining. (not sure, but i'm guessing she's telling him bad things but trying to make him think its good things)

You just had to walk in before I kicked the table beneath my feet. (the girlfriend finds him with another girl) If I can't have any friends I thought why not hang from the ceiling. (the girl tells him not to see anybody else and hes pissed off)

Just because I ordered, doesn't mean I can't look at the menu. (he found a girlfriend but he's saying he can still look at other girls as well.) Not that there's any other fish in this sea I'd rather have on my plater than you. (he's trying to tell her that she's the only on for her)

Don't drink and park, accidents in cars cause population. (basically about having sex) Fuck "more the merrier" there's only one person I need to feel this sinstation. (he's saying that his girlfriend is the only person who he'll have sex with)

If you need directions you can take the road that's down my sleeve, (he's telling her to go his way) This time I'm taking you with me, but the cuffs are you; so good luck trying to leave! (if she doesn't like it, than too bad)

I hope one day I can cross your ocean, without feeling the puncture of your teeth. (he wants to get along with her without her bitching) Believe me I'd rather drown myself, then knowing you have the power to pull me beneath. (he would rather kill himself before she gets complete control of him)

x2 There's so much oxygen that I forgot to breathe (he hasn't experienced true love yet) You're only making things worse, you're only making things worse (I find my self running backwards every time). (the girlfriend's just worsening his feelings about love and that he made no progress with this relationship.)

Fuck that I changed my fucking mind (he doesn't want to deal with her anymore) Jesus loves you so I won't have to. (he doesn't want to love her anymore)

I hope you sleep softly with this pillow pressed against your face (they break up and she's lonely now.)

    My Interpretation

i found the meaning on some site. its about getting drunk and having a one night stand. At the end of the song the girl doenst want a one night stand and wants to be girlfriend/boyfriend but the guy doesnt "fuck that i changed my mind, jesus loves you so i dont have to" and kills her "i hope you sleep softly with this pillow pressed against your face"

Song is about a anger and hate filled relationship the line "just because I ordered dosent mean I can't look at the menu" simply states that the guys girlfriend gets jealous and angry when she catches him looking at other girls. Then when it says "not that there's any other fish in the sea (id rather have on my plater than you)" is the male reassuring the girl that she is the only one for him. Then nearing the end of the song when it says "fuck that I changed my fucking mind jesus loves you so I don't have to" simply implys that he dosent love her any more.then the line "I hope you sleep softly with this pillow pressed against your face" means that he still wants the best for her. Or that's my idea of what this song means think I nailed it maybe except for the end.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
