I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Meaning:: Tom lived in California, so it was hot most of the time. Also he got his first guitar at the age of 15 for painting his house, which he happened to paint brown. He was also big into skateboarding at this time. As the lyrics say, he wished they took him far.

Stressed from everything in his life he created the band "Duct tape", which is who are now known by most as "Blink-182". After creating "Blink-182" he swore to change his life"

Meaning:: the first two lines are talking about not just Blink-182 and their break up but about his entire life. Even though he had some extremely rough times he wouldn't change a think because now he is happy and at peace finally. He thanks God for what has happened to him, and he realized as long as hes happy thats all that matter.

Overal:: This song tells the story of his life and how he went from rags to riches. I also believe this song is to tell both Mark & Travis how even though hes not still with them in Blink-182 hes doing fine without them and he does in fact his them, but doesn't regreat what he did.

very epic but theres a MAJOR meaning. its his life story. it makes reference to his shitty guitar he got out of the trash. getting thrown outta poway high for drinking. his dad cheating leading to a divorce(which he wwrote the song stay together for the kids about.) also makes reference to how mark and tom made blink. then goes on to talk about how hes in ava now with his friends changing(mark travis bye bye here he comes ava) which is his biggest dream. and the best part HE REGRETS NOTHING. :)

Just simple meanings behind this song rly.
Well, as much as there could be hints of his feelings toward Blink in this song, I think the basis and idea for the song came from elsewhere. The punk movement (reference to a punk rock band) started mainly in Washington DC with a band called Minor Threat. Shortly after they broke up, an inspired fan of theirs, started his own band called Rites of Spring (ring a bell?), to keep the punk rock scene alive. The story told in this song tells of details seen in not only the lives of Minor Threat, but also Rites of Spring. Using this background knowledge, Tom certainly may have included his own feelings about his experience with Blink in the lyrics. That's just my educated guess on the meaning/roots of the song. =]
Well, I think it should be noted that Tom was also kicked out of school for drinking at a school function. I think the song is connecting somehow to his life and experiences. As pointed out there's a obvious show to blink-182

This song is his life and experience. This is a beautiful song. But don't even dare try to find some deep meaning inside the obvious. This is him looking at his life. It has shitty times and amazing times. He regrets and wouldn't change any of them.

I personally find it interesting how now, after having released a (poopy compared to this) album that he decides to indirectly mention Blink-182: the most epic band to ever exist.
But here's another question that I would like a response to: How would you feel if he mentioned Blink in WDNTW rather than I-Empire? How would you're thoughts about DeLonge have changed if he did in WDNTW?
