In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
I'll steal your life and cut out your heart
Rip the core of your world apart
Then I'll take your sight
Leave you blind
Laughing hard as you
lose your mind
Smash in your skull!
Kick out your brains!
What remains!
Life!
The living danger
Death!
The welcome stranger
In sin!
You deny the cross
Deny the cross!
I'm an angel, virgin white
This only happens every night
Restitution for my sin
Imprisoned virtue time begins
Killer instincts!
Escape my find!
Path of destruction!
Left behind
Life
it walks away
It fades away
Death is here to stay
It's here today
To deny the cross!
Draw and quarter, slice the meat
Now there's something more to eat
Nothing left
there is just a frame
This poor soul has no name
Back to dirt!
Six feet deep!
I take a breath!
Long and deep!
Deny the cross!
Rip the core of your world apart
Then I'll take your sight
Leave you blind
Laughing hard as you
lose your mind
Smash in your skull!
Kick out your brains!
What remains!
Life!
The living danger
Death!
The welcome stranger
In sin!
You deny the cross
Deny the cross!
I'm an angel, virgin white
This only happens every night
Restitution for my sin
Imprisoned virtue time begins
Killer instincts!
Escape my find!
Path of destruction!
Left behind
Life
it walks away
It fades away
Death is here to stay
It's here today
To deny the cross!
Draw and quarter, slice the meat
Now there's something more to eat
Nothing left
there is just a frame
This poor soul has no name
Back to dirt!
Six feet deep!
I take a breath!
Long and deep!
Deny the cross!

Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
I agree with Doolmon. I don't like bands that promote a very anti-christian message. It's not really better than promoting an anti-semitic message.
I'm fine with Atheist songs, so long as their not anti-spiritual or anti-christian
It sounds like he would rather face death than put up with religion and being brainwashed.
How about I deny this band
Christianity based on the old testament is fucking evil, it promotes sexism, Misogynistic behaviors in men, bigotry, It promotes close mindedness and shuns intelligence and open mindedness. It promotes intolerance to none Theistic philosophies, and anything that is so called "unholy" It creates fear. Any religion that is based on an idea that isn't even tangible nor logical, is delusion. Not to mention most people who claim to be tolerant to all religions are also completely full of it, because they only promote Theistic religions. Christianity and most religion based on Catholicism, brainwash and they teach you to rely on everything you learn is true and you may not speak against it.
Modern Christianity, or so called "born again" Christianity is even more nonsensical, and is completely ridiculous, they believe in ideas that are completely disproved with modern technologies at a completely insane and delusional level. Any kind of religion that believes in magical or ghostly entities and divine beings, are completely delusional. None Theistic religions use their beliefs symbolically, not literally. Most of those people are Agnostic, agnostics have complete apathy for disproving or proving the existence of divine power and being. Believing to just live their life normally and just rely on chance to prove it exists in the end. Faith is another thing, the idea of a god doesn't scare me. I do not care if it does or not. It is not part of my life. I have nothing against faith in something. But the idea that you have to follow certain rules and structures to be salvaged, aka religion, is wrong and completely delusional and nonsensical.
I have a different take them some. I actually don't think this song is as Anti-Christian as people think. I think it is meant as a warning if you Deny the Cross, this is what the outcome can be. Not good! I think when you look at Overkill's over song catalogue there is no indication they are an Anti-Christian band.
