Long Nights Lyrics
For when I'm alone
I'll be better off than I was before
I'll be around to grow
Who I was before
I cannot recall
I'm falling...I am falling
The lights go out
Let me feel
I'm falling
I am falling safely to the ground
Ah...
Like a brand new friend
I'll forever know
And the will to show
I will always be better than before
I'm falling...I am falling
The lights go out
Let me feel
I'm falling
I am falling safely to the ground
This song touches my soul.
I think this song is about the fact that when you are alone, it does make a lot of things easier. It allows you to forget the past because you don't have people reminding you of the past.
[Lyrics] Have no fear For when I'm alone I'll be better off than I was before I've got this light I'll be around to grow Who I was before I cannot recall
[Interpretation] Daytime. Surrounded by people, yet alone. Putting up a brave face. "Wearing the mask" (like Paul Laurence Dunbar). Reassuring myself.
[Lyrics] Long nights allow me to feel... I'm falling...I am falling The lights go out
[Interpretation] Night-time. Literally alone. Solitude allows me to shed the pretence of braveness, allows me to be vulnerable. Feel helpless - falling in the abyss.
[Lyrics] Let me feel I'm falling I am falling safely to the ground Ah...
[Interpretation] An act of utter desperation - a prayer. "Please extend a helping hand"
[Lyrics] I'll take this soul that's inside me now Like a brand new friend
[Interpretation] My unconquerable spirit is my best friend henceforth.
[Lyrics] I'll forever know I've got this light And the will to show I will always be better than before
[Interpretation] I have my unbreakable spirit. Each tomorrow I will strive to be better than what I am today.
This song is great, it has a really resounding tune that fits Eddie's voice perfectly. This whole album has a real getting out there to find yourself theme, and this song is no exception.
I love this song, fits the (also great) movie perfectly!!! My fav song on the album... "Finding yourself" is all it's really about, not much more to say....
this song really shows off eddies voice and how flexible he can be with it. but the music and his voice make it sound kinda eerie and its a perfect to go along with the theme of the movie. it gives me chills!!! i love it!
Incredibly powerful song. I cry when i hear it. Not sure if it would have such an impact if i hadn't seen "Into the Wild"--i saw the movie first, so the song will always have the association with Alexander Supertramp (but it might--Eddie's voice, the speed, the eerie chords...).
The song is about discovering oneself by spending time alone and getting in touch with who you really are. About shedding the labels and pigeonhole society has created around you. Eventually you fall into a place you feel safe and in touch with yourself.
I think this song is about a person trying to get his/her life together again after hitting rock bottom. Life if still hard, but he/she can finally begin to sense the light at the end of the tunnel
i love this guys voice and like a lot of other people on here have commented it does suit the movie very well. this song made me buy the album and i am glad i did.
i like how the female narration in the movie was by the real sister, not just made up for the movie.
very impressive music.
