Face them, the time will erase them
Stop trying to chase them
I've taken my place and it's not worth the tears

I waited so long for this love
As another was slipping away
I waited so long for this moment
As the others were wasted

Cast a shade to save your eyes
Take this time to turn and say goodbye

Frozen, the words go unspoken
New victims are chosen
My heart will be broken but so will my fear

I waited so long for this love
As another was slipping away
I waited so long for this moment
As the others were wasted

Cast a shade to save your eyes
Take this time to turn and say goodbye

I liked Plainsong more when The Cure did it.

A movie is a motion picture, so this is a movie of someones life, and in particular, their love.

"Face them, the time will erase them, stop trying to chase them" Is about just accepting that whoever they were with wasn't right for them, and to give up on them now.

At least I think it's that. It just seems like a song that is generally about letting go of what is unattainable.

Regardless of it's meaning, I love the song. It's soo forlorn and detached but at the same time the music is very final and almost sweet.

I absolutely am in love with this song--the lyrics and the ambience the music just instills: Reminiscent and accepting, hinted with regret. I agree with A.M. about how it's about letting go of what is unattainable.

To me, I feel like this song is all about grasping reality, how things really are--especially when it comes to wanting a certain kind of love that you can't have, but dream about having.

There are moments where we all experience natural highs just thinking about the many possibilities that could happen with a certain crush that we have. Sometimes, however, it goes a little over-board and we start obsessing about things that would probably never even happen--like having them sleep next to you at night, or imagining that they show up outside your window unexpectedly.

We get caught up in that natural high, that dream.

"Face them. The time will erase them. Stop trying to chase them. "

Those lines are about coming to terms with what you're doing, what your imagination fools you into thinking what's real, and what's not. It's about accepting that they will probably never will be yours, and that you should stop "chasing" them by stop dreaming about them obsessively to the point where you end up sleeping all the time. To the point where you're only happy sleeping.

"I've taken my place, and it's not worth the tears.”

This line is about taking a stand and realizing what those actions are doing to your life, and trying to end it. It’s about accepting your situation as is, and moving on.

"I waited so long for this love as another was slipping away. I waited so long for this moment, as the others were wasted. "

Those lines mean so much. When you get caught up dreaming about the perfect "movie-like" situations you could have with your crush, you start to miss the real moments that occur in your life. This is so, because you start to have this "high standard" of how moments should be, that all those real moments should be up to par with the ones that are in the movies. You start to never fully appreciate a realistic moment that you experience because you always compare it to how much more perfect it could be like in the movies.

Those amazing movie moments of love and romance are just there to make us feel better and give us hope. They shouldn't be standards for us to live our lives by.

Therefore, those lines describe what happens when you get so carried away thinking like that. “I waited so long for this love as another was slipping away. I waited so long for this moment, as the others were wasted. " Is talking about how you keep waiting for that perfect “movie love and/or moment”, and how, in the process, you neglect and never appreciate one that’s right in front of you and how it starts to “slip away”, or how the moment just gets “wasted” because you want something that’ll never happen with someone you can never have.

“Cast a shade to save your eyes. Take this time to turn and say goodbye.”

Those lines are talking about finally getting out of it and “waking up” from the dream that you’ve fooled yourself with purposefully for a long time. “Cast a shade to save your eyes.”—it’s talking about using your hands to give shade to your eyes as you open them. When we wake up in the morning, it takes a moment for our eyes to be comfortable in the light. Therefore, it’s talking about giving shade to eyes that have been closed off to the light of reality for so long. “Take this time to turn and say goodbye.”—it’s talking about using that time to “say goodbye” to your old self-degrading habits of getting lost in those dreams and made-up moments in your head.

“Frozen. The words go unspoken. New victims are chosen. My heart may be broken, but so will my fear.”

These lines are talking about finally getting out into the real world and finally taking a risk and putting your heart out on the line. “Frozen” I think, is talking about how when you’re heart is out in the open for someone else, how you just start to freeze as you see them or are trying to make something happen with them—words go “unspoken” as you’re too shy to do anything. “New victims are chosen.”could be referring to new crushes.

“My heart may be broken, but so will my fear.” This line is talking about how despite you are taking a risk in breaking your heart every time you get into a relationship (or in the song’s case, despite that your heart may already be broken), those experiences start to make you stronger, and soon, your fear of taking risks when it comes to love will be gone.

When we all watch that sappy love scene in a movie, we start to wonder and imagine how wonderful and awesome it would be to have that happen in our lives. But that’s all we do. We wonder and imagine, we never do anything to attain it, mainly because we’re too caught up in our insecurities and fears.

This song is so surreal in a sense that it just emphasizes the importance of taking a risk and not wasting time in waiting for something to happen to you. How you should accept how things are in this world, and make the best of what you have. This is probably a song that I keep listening too in years to come.

i didn't read that guy's interpretation because i don't want it to influence mine... i think it's simply about letting yourself fall in love knowing that you'll probably end up hurt but just doing it so that you know what love is. i think this line sums it all up. "My heart may be broken, but so will my fear" maybe you have to have your heart broken atleast once to truly be able to let yourself fall in love with someone without any fear.

i think is about a girl in love with another guy but is afraid of being hurt, but is giving it a try

Frozen. The words go unspoken. New victims are chosen. My heart may be broken, but so will my fear.

so i think its like she saying "i want this guy and even though im going to be hurt if im with him i'll be stronger to see through deception"

also in the beginning of it i see she likes the guy but is shy and afriad to talk to him kinda like a life-long crush

Face them. The time will erase them. Stop trying to chase them. I've taken my place, and it's not worth the tears.

oh well im open if anyone has any other opinons awstme song!!!!!!

Face the pain, time will heal you Let go of the hurt I've come to realize and accept the way things are and it's not worth the pain

I've loved you for a long time And I know you don't love me the same I've been wanting to tell you this for a long time now, But I've haven't had the courage to do so until now

I don't want you to see me cry in pain Now it's time for me to let you go

I did not know how to say what I feel, so I said nothing to you As you hurt others a long the way Letting go of you will kill me, but I'm not afraid anymore

I've loved you for a long time And I know you don't love me the same I've been wanting to tell you this for a long time now, But I've haven't had the courage to do so until now

I don't want you to see me cry in pain Now it's time for me to let you go.

Hello ladies and gentlemen, This beautiful song is about an unfaithful lover and how the other person is dealing with saying goodbye to this person they loved so much for a long time. Listen to the words very closely. Stop trying to put your own meaning and see behind what Chibi is saying. I do not mean any disrespect to anyone. Enjoy this song!

I always thought of this as more of someone dying.

Atleast the first part fits that

Face them (like open casket look at them and accept their dead) The time will erase them (time will heal all wounds) Stop trying to chase them (don't try to keep them alive) I've taken my place (the dead person taking their place in the world) And it's not worth the tears (its not worth crying over the person cause it happens)

Cast a shade to save your eyes Take this time to turn and say goodbye

(walking away from the casket and saying goodbye)

Also I always thought about the music video being for this in the snow..

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
