You can throw away your expectations now
And all the things you wouldn't say out loud
Theres nothing left to pick apart now
The cards are all down
And now you know the sound of my heart
When it hits the paper
Theres no more mystery here
This is the last song

I remember when we first became a band
We'd drive all night and talk about the world
I remember when we used to now and then just sit and wonder
Where it all would go

This is the last song
So everybody sing along
This is the last song

You can throw away your expectations now
And all the things you wouldn't say out loud
Theres nothing left to pick apart now
The cards are all down
And now you know the sound of my heart
When it hits the paper
Theres no more mystery here
This is the last song

I remember when we first became a band
We'd set up in the bedroom
Practice all night long
I remember when we used to now and then
Keep the neigborhood up from the sound of our guitars
I remember when we'd all hop in the van
Turn the radio on,
We were off to see the world
Wake up at 10 to do it all again
Till the sun goes down cause this is all we know

This is the last song
So everybody sing along
This is the last song

I remember when we first became a band
We'd drive all night and talk about the world
I remember when we used to now and then just sit and wonder
Where it all would go

This is the last song
So everybody sing along
This is the last song

I think we're good....: "I wrote this song at the very end of the writing process, I was so beat, and remember just feeling very emotionally/mentally drained. It was intended to be more of a sarcastic “ok, here it is, it’s done. There you go, critique it, love it or hate it, it’s all out on the table.” It’s funny, as an artist, you sometimes feel like people are waiting in the helms for the record to release, so they can cut it up, tear it apart, give their quick effortless 2 cents, and most of the time miss the point of what you were trying to say anyway. Haha, I know that sounds a tad negative, or perhaps a little dramatic, but believe me it often feels that way. So after all, it ended up turning into a song. When we all first started this, there wasn’t anyone (outside of a few friends here and there), constantly trying to compare, dissect, or look for flaws/faults in what we did. It was (as it is now) an honest form of artistic expression, with just way less pressure/responsibility for the results. I love music, I love what we do, and these things are all just a part of the growing process and privilege it is to write/play music for a living. I accept that, and am thankful for everyone who still loves music for music." - Trevor McNevan

Just so everyone knows: TFK is coming out with a new album, "Welcome to the Masquerade," on September 8, 2009. Two new singles, "Bring Me To Life" and "Fire It Up," have already been released.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this song is the last song. This is their goodbye to the music business, and telling the world that this will be their last album. Hopefully not, but it's what it sounds like to me.

I hope not either, but it certainly sounds like it could well be their last song. Just reading the lyrics, its hard to say that it wont be.

I am hoping that it just means it is the last song on the CD, and that "Theres no more mystery here" is just because it is a hidden track.

I can say its the last thousand foot krutch song and that we get an fm static record next summer, so its a good thing I guess

I remember when we first became a band We'd set up in the bedroom Practice all night long

Trevor says that he is not finished with music, but with the band, thousand foot krutch, so there will be an album put out by fm static I think.

I think tfk's ministry is awsome and they've definitely gotten bigger and better since 2000, (of cours there's always room for improvement) I dearly hope this is not the last song, I haven't gotten to see the new songs live yet so I hope to theonethatis at Creation fest next year.

It never occurred to me that it could be their last song as a band. When I first heard it, I initially thought he was just throwing it out their for people who critique. It just seemed like Trevor's way of chillin after producing one more EXCELLENT album :) I thought it was more sarcastic and funny than anything.

We're so quick to NEEDING to know the meaning of something. We can't take anything for its face value nowadays because there always has to be an underly ing message for us. Just Trevor thinking outloud for us.... :D

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
