The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
Like we always do at this time
I go for mine, I gots to shine
Now throw yo' hands up in the sky
I go-go for mine, I gots to shine
Now throw yo' hands up in the sky
I'ma get on this TV mama, I'ma
I'ma put shit down
Ayy (ayy), ayy (ayy)
Ayy (ayy), ayy (ayy)
I'm good
Welcome to the good life
Where niggas who sell D
Won't even get pulled over in they new V
The good life, let's go on a living spree
Shit, they say the best things in life are free
The good life, it feel like Atlanta
It feel like L.A., it feel like Miami
It feel like N.Y., summertime Chi, ahh
Now throw yo' hands up in the sky
So I roll through good
Y'all pop the trunk, I pop the hood, Ferrari
And she got the goods
And she got that ass, I got to look, sorry
Yo, it's got to be 'cause I'm seasoned
Haters give me them salty looks, Lawry's
50 told me, "Go 'head, switch the style up
And if they hate then let 'em hate
And watch the money pile up" the good life
Now I, I go for mine, I got to shine
Now throw yo' hands up in the sky
Now I, I go for mine, I got to shine
Now throw yo' hands up in the sky (ayy)
I'ma get on this TV mama, I'ma
I'ma put shit down
Ayy (ayy), ayy (ayy)
Ayy (ayy), ayy (ayy)
I'm good
Welcome to the good life
Where we like the girls who ain't on TV
'Cause they got more (ass than the models)
The good life, so keep it coming with the bottles
'Til she feel booze like she bombed at Apollo
The good life, it feel like Houston
It feel like Philly, it feel like D.C.
It feel like VA, or the Bay, or Yay
Ayy, this is the good life
Welcome to the good life
Uh, homie, tell me what's good
Why I only got a problem when you in the hood?
Welcome to the good life
Like I'm new in the hood, the only thing I wish
(I wish a nigga would)
Welcome to the good life
He probably think he could, but, but
I don't think he should
Welcome to the good life
50 told me, "Go 'head, switch the style up
And if they hate then let 'em hate
And watch the money pile up" the good life
Now I, I go for mine, I got to shine (yeah)
Now throw yo' hands up in the sky
Now I, I go for mine, I got to shine
Now throw yo' hands up in the sky (ayy)
I'ma get on this TV mama, I'ma
I'ma put shit down
Ayy (ayy), ayy (ayy)
Ayy (ayy), ayy (I'm good)
Have you ever popped champagne on a plane
While getting some brain?
Whipped it out, she said, "I never seen snakes on a plane"
Whether you broke or rich, you gotta get this
Havin' money's the everything, not havin' it is
I was splurgin' on trizz
But when I get my card back activated
I'm back to Vegas (welcome to the good life)
'Cause I always had a passion for flashin' before I had it
I close my eyes and imagine the good life (hey)
Is the good life better than the life I live
When I thought that I was gonna go crazy
And now my grandmama ain't the only girl calling me baby
And if you feelin' me now then put your hands up in the sky
And let me hear you say hey, hey, hey, ooh
I'm good
I go for mine, I gots to shine
Now throw yo' hands up in the sky
I go-go for mine, I gots to shine
Now throw yo' hands up in the sky

Fast Car

Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Holiday
Bee Gees
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Magical
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
Plastic Bag

Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
great song
I think the lines are "Havin' money's not everything, not having it is" and "but when I get my card back activated"
Other than that, good job
Once again, T-Pain is everywhere. Not a big rap or R&B guy but heard this song on someones MySpace and instantly recognized Kanye's voice (one of the only hip-hop artists I can respect). Considering it's T-Pain, I'm guessing this is a song of his new album?
yeah it is off the new one. but i dont really think much of t-pain. i mean, he's alright, but he's not anything special. kanye on the other hand is in a whole other ballpark!
i like it
Does anybody realize the sample used im this song?!?!
I'm only 16 and I recognized this
Michael Jackson PYT
Kanye is a Amazing producer and artist
I also thought taking tha part of 50's song was funny cause of the competiton
great song, like what he did with pretty young thing
and yeah rodlin i think the 50 reference was pretty funny too
Havin' money's not everything, not havin' it is
amazing.
SICK SONG!! quite obvious what its about.....the Good Life
alot of the new songs off graduation have recognizable samples in it, i think he really picked up on them again after producing some Common tracks, like 'the people' where he sampled "Long Red' by Mountain and "We Almost Lost Detroit" by Gil Scott-Heron. i really really love graduation though, and between this song and 'kiss kiss' by Chris Brown, i think T-P is on the rise. that chris brown track is still lame lyrically, "my anatomy is bird-like", but i guess t-pain let chris brown borrow the computer voice effects for it. it's a great dance track, but it's still chris brown, ya dig!?
oh and has anyone made the connection that "Us Placers" from can't tell me nothing is a Thom Yorke sample?
god it took me like a week to figure out, and i just happened to listen to the Eraser and was like DAAAAAAMN.
