Praise God who has many names
But the devil has many more
And with the love that my mother gave me
I'm gonna knock the devil to the floor
I'm gonna drop the devil to his knees
I'm gonna drop the devil to his knees

Beware the people who'll
try to convince you
That they know the answer
No matter the question
Be wary of those who believe in a neat little world
Because it's just fucking crazy
You know that it is

(chanting)

Walking along in this haze of confusion
Sometimes I can laugh
But sometimes it takes all of my strength
Just to find enough reason to take the next step
Step but I will, but I will 'till I do

(chanting)

Somebody's gonna change the world
Somebody's gonna change the world

Brother, sister, brothers, sisters, all
Brother, sister, brothers, sisters,
Praise God who has many names
But the devil has many more
And with the love that my mother gave me
I'm gonna drop the devil to the floor
I'm gonna drop the devil to his knees
I'm gonna drop the devil to his knees

Strange evolution
When people have come
To believe that we are
Its greatest illusion
When really we're just
A collection of cells
Overrating themselves
Hello God, I'm a avoiding the truth

(chanting)

I'm gonna drop the devil to his knees
I'm gonna drop the devil to his knees

(chanting)

I'm a die hard DMB fan and love this song, but I have no clue what it means, I came here to see if anyone had some useful insight, but so far nothing revolutionary. I have an idea. Tell me what you think guys.

Eh? means huh? in english, hee? having similiar meaning in japanese. So Eh Hee is using both words in different language to express that the worlds in a state of confusion.

"Walking along in this haze of confusion"

Yes I know this song was inspired by a African tribe, (the chant coming from them) but I can see Dave taking the chant and transforming it to what I just mentioned.

Also note that the original spelling was Ayhee, but was changed. This means that Dave could have realized what I just realized later on and changed it because it fit very well.

This song screams that dave is confused, and what a better title than two words that mean huh? something you say when your confused?

    Am I overthinking this?

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
