Sittin' out here on the hood of this truck lookin' up
At a caramel colored sunset sky
Checking my watch, doin' the math in my head
Countin' backwards from when you said goodbye
Well, those runway lights are getting brighter.

I'm just sittin' out here watchin' airplanes
Take off and fly
Tryin' to figure out which one you might be on
And why you don't love me anymore
Right now I'm sittin' out here watchin' airplanes.

I wouldn't of lied, couldn't of cried
Shouldn't have tried harder
Done anything to make you stay
I wonder what you'd do if you looked out your window
And saw me runnin' down the runway
Just like I was crazy
But that fence is too high, so am I.

I'm just sittin' out here watchin' airplanes
Take off and fly
Tryin' to figure out which one you might be on
And why you don't love me anymore.

By now, I know, you're 30 thousand feet above me
But a million miles away, a million miles away
By now, I know, I know I'd act like you don"t love me.

I'm just sittin' out here watchin' airplanes
Take off and fly.

I'm just sittin' out here watchin' airplanes
Take off and fly
Tryin' to figure out which one you might be on
And why you don't love me anymore.

Yea, I'm just sittin' out here watchin' airplanes
Now bye, bye, bye
I'm just sittin' out here watchin' airplanes
Baby, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye...

Can't believe nobody's commented this song yet. I seriously cannot listen to this song without crying. Obviously it's about a woman giving up on her relationship with a man, or something of the nature, and now he's just blaming himself and trying to figure out what he's supposed to do about it. But whenever I hear it, I can't help but think of my dad. I live in Oklahoma, and he moved back to California when I was about five. For a long time I thought it was because he didn't love me anymore, and til the time I was about eleven, I'd always run outside and watch the airplanes, thinking maybe he was on one of them, coming back to see me. The song can be translated plenty of ways, but either way, it's a pretty good song. :]]

I think it is about his wife who committed suicide in 2004. He met her when he was on a flight and she was the flight attendent. He is wondering why she doesn't love him anymore because of all the love he has for her and now shes gone. Thats why shes 30,000 feet above in heaven.

~I love this song, I could listen to it all the time. I love how this song is done, the lyrics fit with the instruments so well. Its kind of a sad song, and always makes me think of my ex boyfriend, but in a good way.~

This song is about his wife who committed suicide. He said so in an interview. The lines: "But I know you're 30000ft above me" and "Bye bye bye baby bye bye bye" are what really give it away.

I honestly think he is high,... because "But that fence is too high So am I" and he is smoking cause he lost her.

I get excited whenever i hear the beginning of the song on my ipod when its on shuffle. It's a sad song in an upbeat tempo, which is probably why I can't help but sing along every time I hear it.
