I could use another cigarette.
But don't worry daddy, I'm not addicted yet.
One too many drinks tonight and I miss you,
Like you were mine

Your stormy words have barely broken
And you sound like thunder though you've barely spoken
Oh, it looks like rain tonight and thank God,
Cause a clear sky just wouldn't feel right.

[Chorus]
He's taken and leaving but I keep believing
He's gonna come round soon
Till I see him again I'm staying believing
That it won't be deceiving when he's gonna come round soon.

You may be my final match.
'Cause I chase everything when you play throw and I play catch
It never took much to keep me satisfied
But all this bullshit you feed me you miss me you need me
This hungry heart will not subside

[Chorus]

Well I may seem naive if I cry as you leave like I'm just one more tortured heart
But baby don't be fooled.
Cause these cracks that I show as I'm watching you go aren't tearing me apart
And I know I'll see you soon

The angels said I'd smile today. Aw well who needs angels anyway?

[Chorus]

Yeah, I take this song as being about someone who is falling for a friend. The friend is probably aware and leading her on a bit and she also reads into everything too much. Then she finally says something and he turns her down for whatever reason and she's fairly dead set on not being hurt and/or ignoring the denial and continuing to pursue him.

this song to me is about someone that has really stolen your heart and you can't seem to forget them no matter what you do. You act as if they don't matter to you, but in all actuality they are the one thing you can't live without.

'one too many drinks tonight, and i miss you, like you were mine'

PERFECT. she wants this guy, loves to be around him. but they're not together, though she clearly wants to be. she realizes that she misses not being with him, like they were together.

'he's taken, and leaving, but i keep believing. he's gonna come round soon.'

uh oh. he has a girlfriend! but she still thinks that he likes her, or will, and will 'come round soon' and go out with HER.

AHHHH! this is my favorite song off the album. along with bottle it up. and for reaaaaallsss it rings true to me. i feel the same way, dude.

just saw her in toronto...amazing!! she said that she wants people to know that this song has nothing to do her having a bad relationship with her father and that she, in fact, has a great relationship with her father

Definitely about someone who's no good for you, has treated you badly, led you on, yet you can't let go of the feelings, and the hope they'll come crawling back. I also love the line "One two many drinks tonight and I miss you...like you were mine." Perfect.

    My Opinion

Sara's cd is amazing it's one of those few cd's which i love every song on. This became my favorite as soon as i heard the begining. When i hear this song i always think of her sitting at a bar debating on wheather or not to call this guy whom she calls every time she's in that situation and vice versa. They both have a manipulative relationship that always starts this way and always ends up with one or both broken hearted. They're both no good for each other but always end up coming back and unable to break the pattern. It's like they're no good for each other, but in some ways they belong together. I shouldn't go to sleep with songs on repeat. This is the 8th music video i've dreamt of.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
