Chopping wood, chopping wood, chopping wood is so good.
I do it in my neighborhood, I do it every day, I chop that wood in every way.
I like to chop the wood, but one time I was trying it, and there was some one who said that I couldn't do it.
He tried to stop me, and so I chopped he.
Chopping wood, chopping wood, chopping wood is so good.
Chopping wood, chopping wood, chopping wood neighborhood.
How could you ever try and stop me?
Why would you ever try to stop me?
Chopping wood, chopping wood, chopping wood is so good.
Chopping wood, chopping wood, chopping wood is my favorite thing to do other than everything else that I like doing better.
And the angel came to me and said "you've done very good, there's a specially place for you in our neighborhood.
because you chopped the wood, like we knew you could.
everybody had faith in you, and what you could do."
Then I went to the river, and I cleansed my soul,
I was out of control, I didn't even know
it was against the law.
Because the police I saw, they said, "stop it man".
Chopping wood, chopping wood, chopping wood is so good.
Chop some wood, chop some wood for me, chop it for the children.
Chop it for the children: the future of America.
I don't think I've ever used the word carousel in any of my songs.
So now I have.
Unh.
Takin' it back to the midnight oil.
I don't know but I'm just gonna soil.
I'm gonna spoil.
All the secrets of the world, they're comin' to me now.
I'm gonna tell 'em out, I'm gonna find you out.
I'm gonna force it out, I'm gonna speak out, act out,
and there's nothing that you can do about.
The secrets of the world are mine to command, the secrets of the world are mine to tell, the secrets of the world are here at my fingertips.
You can't stop me, nobody can stop me.
I'm an unstoppable bull thing in the Bull Moose Party.
Uhm, and...
Rocket
soldier.
Rocket soldier on the field.
Rocket
soldier.
Rocket soldier keep it real,
rocket man.
Wasn't that an Elton John song?
If it wasn't then I'm happy, and if not than I guess that I just said a thing.
Rocketting back, rocketting in to the past.
Rocketting back, rocketting in to the past.
Rocketting back, rocketting in to your mind.
Rocketting back, rocketting all the time.
Why, why can't you see? What is gonna happen to me?
'Cause I know, and I know that it's not the same thing.
I know, I know that it's not the same thing.
And I know, I know I'm ripping off Soul Coughing right now, only I would call it ripping off more as using the words of and not really understanding what I'm doing anyway.
Inspector man, inspector what did you find? did you find the darkest corners of my mind?
My wrist really fucking hurts, in the outskirts of the town, they know what goes around and it doesn't make a sound.
The plastic explosives are getting closer.
I can smell 'em every minute.
They're gonna get here very soon.
We have to stop them before we go to far,
or else, we're toast.
Just like the ghost with nothing to boast about what he loast.
We didn't do it.
We didn't get to stop them.
It's Indians and Pilgrims all over again.
Can't wait for Thanksgiving.
Chopping wood, chopping wood, chopping wood, chopping wood.
Chopping wood, chopping wood, chopping wood is so good.
Chopping wood is our only escape.
Chopping wood
is our only hope.
It's our only chance
for survival
beyond this point.
We'll make it.
We're gonna make it.
We're almost there.
Now we're there.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
