Your fingers were crossed behind your back
Before you ever gave me a chance
But, now I have learned to trust myself
And I don't need anyone else
No one's here to light the candle
No one's here to light the way
It's something I will have to handle....my way

I've got to open up my eyes
Find a way to kill the boredom
I've watched the time go by
Now, it's time for me to get mine

Out of room
Out of places to hide
Backed up in the corner
I know I will stay alive
Out of room
Out of places to hide
Backed up in the corner
I know I will stay alive

The lights are still on
And I'm still here
There's nothing left to fear
A vision I've seen
A fire will burn
No longer will I wait my turn
No one's here to light the candle
No one's here to light the way
It's something I will have to handle....my way

I've got to open up my eyes
Find a way to kill the boredom
I've watched the time go by
Now, it's time for me to get mine

Out of room
Out of places to hide
Backed up in the corner
I know I will stay alive
Out of room
Out of places to hide
Backed up in the corner
I know I will stay alive

Stay alive
Stay alive

This time
This time
It's time for me to get mine

Out of room
Out of places to hide
Backed up in the corner
I know I will stay alive
Out of room
Out of places to hide
Backed up in the corner
I know I will stay alive
I will stay alive
I will stay alive
I will stay alive
I will stay alive

What a Awesome Song.. cant wait till the "live" album I think this song is about whatever happens in life or in a certain time, that you can find a way to live. No matter how tough it may be, I think we can survive it.

Just what I needed. They always come through with a song about staying strong or facing your problems whenever things get rough or even when people are in your face about BS. They always come through.

    Well done Trapt.

    Well done.

Yeah the video sucked. But thats cause they ran out of money and shit. Their going down hill and it pisses me off. Cause their the best band ever. Every1 is just illegaly dling the songs and crap. Its running them poor. And now their with a different label, which might be cause they arent meeting up to the effing standards. EVERY1 BUY THEIR FREAKING CD! Its the best band ever, and u definately wont regret it. Their lyrics just connect with you.

um, do you realize that this video probably costs more than a "regular" video, like, for instance - their video for Echo. they didn't run out of money or anything. they just tried something different.

while I don't like the video either, I love the song.

To me this song is about being trapped, "backed up in a corner" so to speak, and knowing that there is a way out. There will be a solution to help you get somewhere better, hence "Stay Alive". This song is too awesome for mere words, and i can't wait to get their next release.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
