Single Girls Lyrics
I cut it when you weren't there
that pieces of us everywhere
were falling down
Pink flowers under my head
and pillows on your side instead
of you
don't think about you
Praying for my heart's salvation
I've got the motivation
to be a free girl now
put up a new color on my bare walls
I'm so damn busy
after all
don't think about you
I keep trying
to make my way back to the light where I belong
But God keeps lying
God keeps lying
saying this is for the best and nothing here is wrong
I cut it like I didn't care
that pieces of me everywhere
were falling down
before I turn off the lights
this time I'll be fine
I'll be fine
I'll be fine

this to me is a girl trying to convince herself that she's over her exboyfriend and she isn't, "But I'm still thinking about you." very simply put and i love her voice.
i cant believe there are no comments!
I can't agree more. This song is indeed pretty straightforward.

Saw her perform this last night --- and it was mesmerizing. It's definitely about a girl desperately trying to cling onto her resolve to MOVE ON from a failed relationship.

I think this song is about a girl who truly wants to get back together with the guy, and hopes he does too, but knows that he doesn't want to.
I just found this song not too long ago, and I absolutely love it! I thought I would offer my reflection on some of the lyrics:

I think you'd like my new hair I cut it when you weren't there that pieces of us everywhere were falling down

I think that here feels like she had to be a certain way with her ex, keep up a certain appearance and therefore a certain hairstyle... so when she cut it, she was letting go of those things that she once maintained for him (the "pieces of us everywhere..falling down"). She no...
I think that here feels like she had to be a certain way with her ex, keep up a certain appearance and therefore a certain hairstyle... so when she cut it, she was letting go of those things that she once maintained for him (the "pieces of us everywhere..falling down"). She no longer has to do such things to please him.
I think you'd like my new hair I cut it like I didn't care that pieces of me everywhere were falling down
I think here she is saying that she had spent so much time defining herself in terms of who she was when she was with him, and now that they're no longer together the girl she had become is now falling apart and undergoing change (the haircut is a symbol for change, or to let new growth take place)
This is just my interpretation based on my experiences. And for those girls out there who are going through a breakup situation, go get your hair cut! Nothing too drastic, but it does give you a certain feeling of empowerment!

I believe this song is about a girl trying to move on after the death of her boyfriend (or fiance), there is no bitterness or accusation in her lyrics addressing "you" (the boyfriend). I believe she is trying to move on after the loss of her love, and she only sounds angry with god "But God keeps lying God keeps lying, saying this is for the best and nothing here is wrong." Here is on earth where she was left, alone.
