The Sacrifice Lyrics

Your eyes
Sing to me sweet lullabies
While you lay there in submission

Forbidden desire
Alone in the moonlight hard to find
Runaway our inhibitions

When the stars lose their fire
And night steals the morning away
Forever and a day
I will stay - I will stay here with you
My love

Sacrifice
A heartbeat away from paradise
All my reasons giving way to temptation

Fear and shame
Looking for someone else to blame
We're devoured by these fruitless accusations

With every fleeting breath I take
Maybe our love was a mistake
Eternal life I traded for
One moment beside you

When the stars lose their fire
And night steals the morning away
Forever and a day
I will stay - I will stay here with you
My love

When the stars lose their fire
And night steals the morning away
Forever and a day
I will stay - I will stay here with you
My love

I feel this song is about forbidden love/lust perhaps on the same accord as a Romeo & Juliet. Passion & love that can will involve some sacrifice for it to fully be what it fully desires to me.

Beautiful song. Amazing chorus, great emotion in it. I think this song is about how Adam ate the forbidden fruit because Eve gave it to him, how he knew it was not right, but he did it for her, or atleast that is what I can get from this lines: "With every fleeting breath I take Maybe our love was a mistake Eternal life I traded for One moment beside you"

i recently read paradise lost for english class, and i heard about this album. but yeah, the song is talking about the time when eve had eaten the forbidden fruit and adam had not yet. in the poem, eve offers the fruit to adam because she doesn't want to lose him, realizing that she will die and adam will not. the song is in the perspective of adam, and it is him talking about how he would trade eternal life (being pure) for being with eve. it shows his devotion to eve rather than God, and how eve is in turn tempting adam to disobey God.

Find it tempting to interpret the story between the lines as that of a BDSM relationship...
