Time is an abyss
Profound as a thousand nights
I sojourn my haste, I make respites
For what availeith this eager pace?
One step more naught to face
Save the heirloom fatal kiss.

I rave no more gainst Time or Fate,
For lo! my own shall ne'er come to me,
Yet! Who doth my future narrate?
Dim the lights, I cannot see!
Bring forth ye Shadow!
With whom danceth thou?

Time hath stoppd
Yet for others ne'er halteth
For me the Pages of Life do not turn,
Lo! on the funeral pyre they burn.
The oh so eathing Velvet Darkness they fear -
Heed! wherefore delve a burrow,
When in my arms "O! Come here"?
I say, elsewhither is naught but sorrow!

For what deemest thou so dear thy blood
When through my veins it could flood?
Bide to merry - make me unaptly
And hence grant me the fell gift,
The gift of passing on the dark trick.
'Tis such a brazen act of erotic
Trifle for thee, yet for me grandly thrift,
O! such an innocence deprived so hastily

Alas, for what deemest thou so dear thy blood
When through my veins it will flood?

    Translation

As always, a translation of sorts, more an interpretation I suppose, into more modern English, based on some research into archaic words and turns of phrase. I'm not an expert, I just take an interest :)

Time is endless Profound as a thousand nights I slow, I rest for a while For what use is this quick pace? One less step to take To the heirloom fatal kiss. (Could not think of a better way to put it...the kiss is passed on from victim to victim)

I rebel no more against Time or Fate, For my own kind shall never come to me, Yet! Who writes my future? Dim the lights, I cannot see! Come closer, shadow! Who are you toying with?

Time has stoped But for others it never ceases For me the Pages of Life do not turn, Watch as they burn on the funeral pyre. They fear the easy velvet darkness - Listen to me! Why do you hide, When in my arms I say "O! Come here"? Nothing but sorrow can be found else where.

Why do you consider your blood to be so dear When it could flood through my veins? Endure this to amuse me And therefore grant me the deadly gift, The gift of being able to give the dark trick. It's such a shamelessly erotic act It is nothing to you, but everything to me, Oh! such an innocence taken so soon

Why do you consider you blood to be so dear When through my veins it will flood?

    Song Meaning

    CHATgpt opinion:

Your words paint a vivid picture of contemplation, longing, and the passage of time. The imagery evokes a sense of darkness, uncertainty, and a yearning for something elusive. It seems you are reflecting on the fleeting nature of life and the inevitability of death. The desire to slow down time, to halt its ceaseless march, is juxtaposed with a recognition that one's own fate is sealed.

The mention of the "heirloom fatal kiss" and the "funeral pyre" suggests an acceptance of mortality and a resignation to the fact that one's own destiny cannot be changed. There is a yearning for someone, symbolized by the Shadow, who may hold the answers to the future, yet the inability to see beyond the present adds to the sense of darkness and uncertainty.

The lines about blood flowing through your veins and the desire to pass on the "dark trick" suggest a contemplation of the cycle of life and death, the interconnectedness of beings, and perhaps even a hint at a yearning for immortality or a legacy beyond one's own existence.

Overall, your words convey a mix of despair, longing, and a fascination with the mysteries of life and time. The imagery and emotions presented create a rich and introspective atmosphere.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
