This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart

Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.

Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
My interpretation of this song (If someone's already stated this, forgive me) Is that it's a representation of the life of a man - told through the life and death of a pig. There's a saying "MEN ARE PIGS" Well, this puts a twist on that thought, rather than making pigs filthy, the pigs play innocently as children, live a good life, fall in love, marry, and die.
The epic part with the "But now I've got to die..." Is also symbolic, because the one thing man fears more than anything else is death. But after living a pure and innocent life, why fear it? What have you got to fear? 'I've lived a good life, I've got not complaints'
Farmer Pete, to me, also represents a god-like character, for "Farmer Pete for bring me scraps of food that I could eat" God doesn't give you everything you ask for, he gives you scraps, he gives you what you need, not what you want. He let the man/pig live a good life.
Even in the death, he doesn't resent pete, for he knows that he's provided the foundation for his life.
THIS IS AN AMAZING SONG! No matter the interpretation, I think we can all agree that this song is chillbump-inducing.
...well, it's fairly obvious what this this song is about. a pig from the time it's a piglet, until it grows up and gets slaughtered.

On the version that's on the Red Album, they added a really cool touch by putting a lone snare drum hit to symbolize the gunshot that kills the pig after the last "i played with my friends in the mud" line, right as it goes quiet for a moment
Amazing song. Yes it's about the life of a pig. Sums up life (for any creature) very simply. The song is very sweet yet sad. Very Pinkerton-esque. Love it!

A very Vegan song- The song is just the life of a pig and how the farmer hated killing, but thats how he made a living- A sad song in the life of a pig. I love what they did to it on the album, but otherwise a great song!
I like this song. Anyone think that maybe the song could be about Rivers? Him finally getting married and having "lived a good life"? Also after the 2 minute mark on the song his singing kinda reminds me of Freddie Mercury. Anyone else think that?
