My insides all turned to ash, so slow
And blew away as I collapsed, so cold
A black wind took them away from sight
And now the darkness over day, that night
And the clouds above move closer
Looking so dissatisfied
But the heartless wind kept blowing, blowing
I used to be my own protection, but not now
Cause my path has lost direction, somehow
A black wind took you away from sight
And now the darkness over day, that night
And the clouds above move closer
Looking so dissatisfied
And the ground below grew colder
As they put you down inside
But the heartless wind kept blowing, blowing
So now you're gone, and I was wrong
I never knew what it was like to be alone
On a Valentine's Day, on a Valentine's Day
On a Valentine's Day, on a Valentine's Day
On a Valentine's Day (I used to be my own protection)
On a Valentine's Day (but not now)
On a Valentine's Day ('Cause my mind has lost direction
On a Valentine's Day (somehow)
On a Valentine's Day (I used to be my own protection
On a Valentine's Day (but not now)
On a Valentine's Day ('Cause my mind has lost direction
On a Valentine's Day (somehow)
And blew away as I collapsed, so cold
A black wind took them away from sight
And now the darkness over day, that night
And the clouds above move closer
Looking so dissatisfied
But the heartless wind kept blowing, blowing
I used to be my own protection, but not now
Cause my path has lost direction, somehow
A black wind took you away from sight
And now the darkness over day, that night
And the clouds above move closer
Looking so dissatisfied
And the ground below grew colder
As they put you down inside
But the heartless wind kept blowing, blowing
So now you're gone, and I was wrong
I never knew what it was like to be alone
On a Valentine's Day, on a Valentine's Day
On a Valentine's Day, on a Valentine's Day
On a Valentine's Day (I used to be my own protection)
On a Valentine's Day (but not now)
On a Valentine's Day ('Cause my mind has lost direction
On a Valentine's Day (somehow)
On a Valentine's Day (I used to be my own protection
On a Valentine's Day (but not now)
On a Valentine's Day ('Cause my mind has lost direction
On a Valentine's Day (somehow)

Wake up! Linkin Park makes whatever kind of music they want to. They always have, and always will. I for one have the exact same taste in music as they do, so I know I will never dislike anything they produce. If you wanted them to make another HT or Meteora, then maybe you should listen to Meteora and HT more. I for one was ready for some change after 7 years of rage and aggression. I have changed as a person and so have they. There is nothing wrong with them making different music, especially since it is fucking awesome. Try listening to these songs without paying attention to any of the lyrics at all. They are amazing musical masterpieces.
As for this song, if this album would have been released in February I might not have been able to listen to this album ever again. On the eve of Valentines day I found out that my ex had died. She was my first and only love. I question whether Linkin Park knows my personal life when I listen to this song. I truly dont know how anyone who hasnt felt the feeling of losing someone you loved on Valentines day could ever capture that feeling with such vivid detail. Im pretty sure that it was Chester that wrote this song, and I couldnt thank him enough for giving me the feeling that Im not alone in my experience. When I thought I couldnt possibly love Linkin Park any more than I already did, they go and blow me away with an album that deserves alot of credit from alot of people.
If you want to listen to a band that makes all their CDs sound the same, then go listen to Nickelback.
I really love LP, and as you, I grew up with them since 2000.
It's obvious it's about losing someone dear, a lover. Literally taken, it seems that someone has died and he is standing at the funeral (the grown below grew colder, as they put you down inside), though I guess it could be taken metaphorically as well.
Brilliant nonetheless. I love how it builds up to the chorus. It really amazed me. The piano part and the chorus are my fav parts. :)
Go, LP! :)
Is it about a girlfriend or boyfriend dying? From the looks of it, by a fire. I love this song. It's great.
phins4gish: I'm sorry for your loss. You're damn right about LP though. They do what they want, because it's what they want. They don't do what someone else wants.
And FYI i think i read in Kerrang Magazine that the normal is that chester and mike start writing the songs together, but this was something mike started alone. Odd, i know, but still, it's perfect.
It reminds me of all the shit that i've been through, and to be alone on the lovers day...
It sucks ya' know?
