This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.
I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars
I can ride my bike with no handlebars
No handlebars
No handlebars
Look at me, look at me
Hands in the air like it's good to be alive
And I'm a famous rapper
Even when the paths are all crookedy
I can show you how to do-si-do
I can show you how to scratch a record
I can take apart the remote control
And I can almost put it back together
I can tie a knot in a cherry stem
I can tell you about Leif Ericson
I know all the words to "De Colores"
And "I'm proud to be an American"
Me and my friend saw a platypus
Me and my friend made a comic book
And guess how long it took
I can do anything that I want 'cause, look
I can keep rhythm with no metronome
No metronome
No metronome
And I can see your face on the telephone
On the telephone
On the telephone
Look at me
Look at me
Just called to say that it's good to be alive
In such a small world
I'm all curled up with a book to read
I can make money, open up a thrift store
I can make a living off a magazine
I can design an engine
Sixty-four miles to a gallon of gasoline
I can make new antibiotics
I can make computers survive aquatic conditions
I know how to run a business
And I can make you wanna buy a product
Movers, shakers and producers
Me and my friends understand the future
I see the strings that control the systems
I can do anything with no assistance
'Cause I can lead a nation with a microphone
With a microphone
With a microphone
And I can split the atoms of a molecule
Of a molecule
Of a molecule
Look at me
Look at me
Driving and I won't stop
And it feels so good to be
Alive and on top
My reach is global
My tower secure
My cause is noble
My power is pure
I can hand out a million vaccinations
Or let 'em all die in exasperation
Have 'em all healed of their lacerations
Have 'em all killed by assassination
I can make anybody go to prison
Just because I don't like 'em
And I can do anything with no permission
I have it all under my command
Because I can guide a missile by satellite
By satellite
By satellite
And I can hit a target through a telescope
Through a telescope
Through a telescope
And I can end the planet in a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
In a holocaust
I can ride my bike with no handlebars

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
this song is amazing. I love the way it starts off with the creepy half-whisper "I can ride my bike with no handlebars" - as if there is something more sinister to come from that seemingly innocent show of skill.
to me, that first lyric pans out to represent an arrogant and scary attitude of America towards the rest of the world.
"I can hand out a million vaccinations Or let'em all die in exasperation Have'em all grilled leavin lacerations Have'em all killed by assassination I can make anybody go to prison Just because I don't like'em and I can do anything with no permission I have it all under my command"
flobots are wondering at and scared by the power the dominant have - the power to play with lives, to save a million lives or let them die depending on our fancy, to assasinate who we want, to end the planet in a nuclear holocaust. They draw this out from such a global level (I can guide a missile by satellite) to such a seemingly innocent activity as riding a bike, at the beginning and end, and seem to ask the question whether one really should ride their bike without handlebars (have free dominion over the world) simply because he can.
Well i have read a lot of them but i think that there is a simpler way to sum up this whole song. <br /> <br /> From my perspective all the lyrics in the songs are about and individuals influence on others around them and the actions that they are capable of doing but not necessarily do.<br /> <br /> Examples for my statement are painted throughout the lyrics so i won't bother posting an specific parts.<br /> <br /> one of my favorite statements in this song is <br /> "I see the strings that control the systems<br /> <br /> I can do anything with no assistance"<br /> <br /> which is very perceptive, if any of you have seen the movie the shawshank redemption(spoiler inc), Andy(the main character) is convicted of murder, basically near the end of the movie when he escapes from the prison he is able to start a new life with the money from the warden because he understands the way that things work in this world and therefore understands the flaws and lupoles of the system.
Hey, you got a good comment but the lyrics are<br /> "....Have'em all killed in exasperation, Have'em all HEALED WITH allacerations...."<br /> <br /> <br /> Other than that, nice little speech there<br />
Yeah. You said it exactly right. But not really Flobots being scared, but them showing the world of how people who are already powerful, try to become even MORE powerful.
I think the song has a number of different meanings. On the one hand, you could take it as them saying that it's easy to become a monster without even realizing. It starts out with simple, innocent things that one would relate to childhood. Then it gets more grown up, talking about adulthood, and the road to success. Then it completely changes and talks about power, and the abuse of it. It's sort of showing a person changing, how they started out as a regular kid and grew to become a dangerous world power. On the other hand, it could be making a statement about certain people, like the president, or America in general, and how we've abused our power. The song has a lot of layers to it. It could be taken in any number of ways. That's what's so great about it!
It's about innocence, human innovation and the power, responsibility and corruption that can stem from it. <br /> <br /> The start is about what the two people can innocently accomplish and the potential they have. But as their abilities grow one of them seeks more power to cause good. They grow in power and responsibilities and they have the power to cause great good. But as they become more technologically advanced so does their power to cause good OR bad and with that the danger and responsibility. In the end, they get overcome by power and despite their good intentions greed starts to control everything. The other person was more humble and never sought the power it takes to make such changes. He tries to save the world and stand up at the end but by then the system is too powerful. It's about the responsibilities and great power we have as a race and the whole story is a metaphor for humanity itself.
