Take the pain until it all rings hollow
We learn to loathe the truth as it shines
I already see a ghost on the sidewalk
Kissing in the hereafter

And your hands are in your pockets as you face her
And your bodies both frozen by the door
Only one knows they're watching you die
They're there from hereafter

Young life crushes each young love
If anything, life is for somebody else
You can hardly live it for yourself
And the man you love just doesn't
Know who, just what he's after

Chances are you wouldn't even
Recognize the man I am now
Chances are you wouldn't even
Recognize the man I am now
Chances are you wouldn't even
Recognize the man I am now

He'll make up any excuse
To wear the reins you can't control
The knife wanders through me so slow
It cuts between us as we grow
Ooooh

General Commentthanks a ton, man! i guess "rarities from nyc" sounds more like a studio bit than a live one, either way it's an amazing track.

    General CommentBeautiful song.

No indication as to whether it would've been used anywhere.

I'm glad to have heard this; and having lived to hear Jeff's Music.

General CommentThis is perhaps my favorite recording of Jeff's. I wish he had finished it! I'm pretty sure it's studio, fall of 1996. His voice is really smoky.

"And your hands are in your pockets as you face her" ended up in 'You and I (Guitar Version)'.

General CommentIn the version I heard I feel like he says "you've learned to think life is for somebody else" instead of "if anything..."
