"Young Modern Station" as written by Julian Thomas Hamilton and Daniel Paul Johns....
Stalled at young modern station
Arthritic conversation
Life has a dead line lately
Allergic and in the news

The clocks are ticking timeless
Dead Dali days behind us
The band is back together
Allergic and in the news

[Chorus]
Does it make you cry
When I make you feel so far away?
The interview's over
Stuck to the goal
To rescue my skin

I need a different liquor
So sick of getting sicker
And I'm moving back to the country
Allergic and in the news

[Chorus]

You're so far away
The interview's over

He dreams of tracks and choices
I think I'm hearing voices

[Chorus]

General CommentI think this song is directed toward the fans of their earlier albums. "Does it make you cry, when i make you fell so far away" that's probably ment for the people who are more at home in their old grunge sound and want the old silverchair back.

General CommentThis is a SilverchairMeans1 song meaning.

"Stalled at Young Modern Station, athritic conversation"
-This section of the song represents how Daniel Johns was in the same place, doing all the same things all the time while recording Young Modern. Athritic conversations were the feelings he was going through after he came back from his illness of arthritis. He felt nothing could come across clearly, therefore he compared his illness to his conversations-they brought him down and limited his creatvie horizons.

"Life has a deadline lately, allergic and in the news"
Coming to the realisation, after going through his post-Diorama illnesses, that life doesn't last forever and that at any moment his ability to play and write could be stopped, he decided to make the most of all he had. Allergic and in the news is referring to his belief that no matter what happens, there is a good side to it. Allergic (aka having illness/disorder) and in the news (still being big, still living a good life and being known).

"The clocks are ticking down as dead Dali days behind us"
This line is referring to the limit that Johns felt he had to write Young Modern, with the belief that the album had to be done in a set time, whilst dead Dali days are of course long, painful and often busy parts of life.

"The band is back together, allergic and in the news"
This line is simply stating that Silverchair is back, regardless of public opinion. In this line, allergic and in the news has a different meaning and is about the knowledge that mainstream audiences probably wouldn't take to Young Modern, however they would be making some ground and getting a name back for themselves.

"Does it make you cry, when I make you feel so far away, the interview's over"
The first lines of the chorus are aimed at two groups: the media and the general public. For the media, he used these lines to show that he was going to be himself and push away anyone who tried to criticise him for doing his own thing. It was also as equally aimed at the general public, to say that he was going to do what he was going to do, and there would be no questions about it (the interview's over).

"I need a different liquor, so sick I'm getting sicker"
This line speaks for itself. He was feeling sick, frustrated and he needed a new musical path. (He portrayed this as liquor, an addictive but pleasureable and relaxing thing).

"And I'm moving back to the country, allergic and in the news"
This line was primarily aimed at Australians. Johns felt that in a way, he wasn't being an Australian musician as much, as the band had heavily followed overseas infulences prior to Young Modern. The allergic and in the news line comes back again to signify he knew he was going to cop crticism from Australian media and critics, but he knew it would be a good thing-it would make people aware of the band and his style of music for potential listeners.

    CHORUS

"He dreams of tracks and choices, I think I'm hearing voices"
Johns is reffering to himself in this line, stating that he is dreaming of new pathways in life and new musical direction, and mirrors it with "I think I'm hearing voices", saying that his thoughts and dreams of new paths are just that-thoughts and dreams. His inner voice, in a sense, becomes someone else's.

General CommentMaybe its about touring and leaving loved ones behind as they went and became famous.
Sounds like maybe he wants to go back home for a
    while.
This song may be about the way he felt after Diorama.

General CommentI think he is speaking of the stale parts of life that a popular musician endures during the creation, release and promotion of a new project. You can see how daniel almost cringes at the bs he puts up with: certain interviews, fan criticisms and label reps. This very much reminds me of a philosophical work called "Borgess and I" Its about the relationship between one's consciousness(self) and the relationship that it holds with the public self. And I dont know why I feel like there should be quotation marks "He dreams of tracks and choices"
    I think I'm hearing voices.
Probably about the whole deal with diorama and the label telling them what to do with their music. Daniel definately achieved what he wanted, to be a vocalist and write to accentuate or facilitate the lyrics. This song feel and sounds like...like a beautifully liberating FU."The interview's over
Stuck to the goal To rescue my skin" Like he is now making music for him! But this is my interpretation after only the second listen. We will see how this evolves.

lol.. That would be so dumb.. He couldn't write a song with such a dumb meaning if he was being sarcastic. Jeez.

General Commenti really relate to the chorus because i find that the more i try to be myself and really express myself the more i sometimes make people feel far away.
on a slightly different tack, i like to think that silverchair are on a different road to what they've done in the past. i like hearing big bold songs that everyone can sing along to and feel happy

General Commentyup i think silverchairmeans1 pretty much got it. plus the moving back to the country, didn't he(they) live in like LA or somewhere in the states and he did literally move back to "his country". And yup i do believe the "alergic and in the news" is pretty much a reference to critics and a way of saying "no matter what i do i'll be in the news so F off. But i'ld pretty much go with silverchairmeans2 one meaning, perhaps with some slight altercations or added thoughts, but mine still pretty much run on the same lines
