Nothing to lose is a path you can choose
And it feels just right at the time
Then one day you awake with a fear you can't shake
You're an actor forgetting your lines

You were a star when you started so bright eyed and ready
But now you just can't seem to shine
Nothing to lose is a path that you choose
And it feels just right at the time

But can you still remember your very first kiss?
Or the future you hoped for when we were still kids?
Stay young, stay young

There are constants like gravity, heartbreak and shame
You can never out run them, they're part of your name
Like lessons you learn from a past you can't change
Stay young, stay young

For a lifetime of paying dues and ruthless reviews
Yeah, it's hard not to end up a cynic
When everyone's too scared to walk in your shoes
But can work up the nerve to be critics

Oh, can you still remember your very first kiss?
Or the future you hoped for when we were still kids?
Stay young, stay young

No, don't lose your heart
Don't lose your soul
Don't give up control

It's the business end of a loaded gun
Facing tomorrows of black useless lungs
With nothing but lies left on tips of our tongues
Stay young, stay young

Oh, can you still remember your very first kiss?
Or the future you hoped for when we were still kids?
Trying to keep up our innocence in this fucked up world
Stay young, stay young, stay young, stay young, stay young

Nothing to lose is a path that you choose
And it feels just right at the time
Then one day you awake with a fear you can't shake
You're an actor forgetting your lines

Bes song on the album for me. Seems to be about suicide. It's easy to lose control in the present world but we need to take a step back and see it differently, like when we were young. The last verse about the gun, blackness seem to point in this direction. Anyway, another amazing song by an amazing band

To me this song seems to be about growing up and not letting the world get you down when you feel lost or hopeless. Just remember when you were young and how the world seemed then.

Its an all around beautiful song. Amazing.

I would have to disagree about the suicide part.

I believe it focusing on trying to stay innocent, like when you are a child. Buisness end of a gun...probably referring to violence and gang related activity, etc etc black, useless lungs - smoking...but im sure intended as a 'bad habits' metaphor.

all backed up by "keep up our innocence in this fucked up world."

    I love it

    avogradros number?,...are you kidding me?

but its not about suicide...or gang activity, although that would be closer. Its Eric's idea of the corporate world, which he mentions in multiple songs. Just the idea that a corporate job can kill you...except he makes it a lot more poetic

    Song Meaning

This song is about living in modern society while still keeping your innermost values.

Nothing to lose is a path you can choose and it feels just right at the time. Then one day you awake with a fear you can't shake

this part talks about a young person living life to the fullest and being happy, until one day he finds himself in a bad job with nothing exciting happening. He's scared because he wonders what happened to the young happiness.

But can you still remember your very first kiss or the future you hoped for when we were still kids? Stay young, stay young.

this part talks about how sometimes young people have the biggest dreams ever but when they get older they dont believe in themselves as much and settle for something less.

There are constants like gravity, heartbreak and shame, you can never out-run them, they're part of your name like lessons you learn from a past you can't change, stay young, stay young

this basically says that you will experience hard times in your life but you gotta keep believing in your values that you had when you were younger.

for a lifetime of paying dues and ruthless reviews, yeah it's hard not to end up a cynic when everyone's too scared to walk in your shoes but can work up the nerve to be critics.

this part talks about how sometimes people can judge you when they themselves are just as bad. Also it talks about how if you truly stand up for what you believe in and keep your younger values that everyone will judge you but you still gotta keep living that way.

Don't lose your soul. Don't give up control. It's the business end of a loaded gun, facing tomorrows of black, useless lungs with nothing but lies left on tips of our tongues, stay young, stay young!

This part means that you shouldnt give up control of your life. Its your life and you can do whatever you want with it. So dont think that you have to settle for being something less than you want. Business end of a loaded gun means that you should stand up for what you believe in rather than shooting everything you love just because "its business." Facing tomorrows black useless lungs and lies on tips of our tongues means simply that if you let others control your life and dont believe in urself and lose your innermost values, at the end of your life you will be proud of nothing. All the bad habits you got into and all the lies and falsehoods that you swore upon.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
