In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Girl I don't want to argue
I don't wanna fight
and if there's something wrong
yes you know I'm gonna try to make it right
I love you, you love me
we be one family tonight
so get right over here
let's get down col' funky tonight
girl you are my queen
and there ain't no doubt about it
and if you want I'll tell the world
yes you know I'll shout it
the way you walk, talk, move yeah girl get me high as a kite
so get right over here let's get down col' funky tonight
what's your name?
let's go back to when we first met
back in 1999 'preciate
before you knew I was yours and you mine, yeah
gonna turn the lights down low
put the stereo on
put on our favourite record by
ella fitz and louis armstrong
and take you to our living room dancefloor
and I'll hold you tight
I guarantee you me gonna get down funky tonight
what's your name?
let's go back to when we first met
back in 1999 'preciate

and I knew you were mine

The Night We Met

This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
Funky can also be interpreted as smelly, and that's what I believe this song is about.

I wish I could digitally remove john's voice from every track he sings on. His lyrics and vocal phrasing make me cringe. But he's a goddam wizard with the guitar!!
i think its about having an argument with your partner and focusing on the things that brought you together in the first place.
And having lots of make up sex. Of course
john said recently it's about going thru the motions, and trying to recapture the spark of when they first met. hence the chorus. something along those lines anyway
couple of fix-ups. "So get right over here let's get down col' funky tonight" and "put on your favourite record by Ella Fitz and Louis Armstrong".
And oh yeah, it's obvious what he's talking about. John's always straight-up with his lyrics.
Sorry, 'our' favourite record... why oh why can we not edit our posts?
Make up sex FTW.
jb's not always straight up about his lyrics. for instance, look at Use To Get High. that song is about the government. not actually getting high.
JB explained in Santa Cruz that he wrote this about a club in Australia where there was an awesome DJ and he was dancing with his girl. gettin' Funky tonight!!
