We met in a place I used to go
Now I just walk by it for show
Can't bear to go in without you, you know
Wish I could
Wish I could

But Annie is standing in the door
With a look on her face, I can't just ignore
She tells me that her heart is sore
And pulls me in
She pulls me in

She says, "Love in the time of war is not fair
He was my man, but they didn't care
Sent him far away from here
No goodbye
No goodbye"

I don't tell her that I once loved you too
Or about all the things we used to do
I kiss her hair and think of you
Walking down
The road you found

We met in a place I used to go
Now I only walk by it slow
Can't bear to go in without you, you know
Wish I could
Wish I could
Wish I could
Wish I could

This is such a lovely song. It seems to speak of some sort of love triangle. Two friends may have fallen in love with the same man.

Amazing song...it's just got such a soothing melody. I also agree that it's about a love triangle between two friends.

Yeah true. Very sweet song. Her friend doesn't know about their relationship and they are both anxious about his going to fight in the war:

She says "love in the time of war is not fair", "he was my man but they didn't care", "sent him far away from here", etc etc.

Yeah but it's a blissful melody and chord progression, not to mention beatiful lyrics.

I'm surprised there's no more comments here, her voice is just too emotional in this song, every note right on the sore spot ;-)

I'm not big on any type of rumors for celebrities or etc (so I don't know if there are some are not),... but I see what you mean with your comment. She does seem in-tuned to this song. Either way, I don't think that she needs to be judge for anything. These are songs and could be something felt. If that's a friend or partner it's still how everyone feels in a short term or long term relationship. She's great for putting herself out their, if it's for her our someone she sympathizes with.

    My Interpretation

Here's my interpretation of this song.

This song is a love letter to a love that has passed away; pretty obvious. This love was involved with the singer and the other subject of the song, Annie. Annie hears of the unnamed love's demise and comes to our narrator for comfort. The narrator swallows her own sadness to comfort Annie while thinking of our unnamed love.

At the end of the song it has always sounded to me that she says, "Can't bear to on without you along" instead of the listed lyric of "Can't bear to go in without you now." This has always led me to believe that this love letter being written is actually a suicide note and that the singer can't bear to go on without her love.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
