Oh, well, I've seen you around all those dark corners
Oh, where the shattered glass shines like stars
Oh, where those boys will be girls and those girls will be for hire
I swear they're all strung out on those boulevards

She said, just give me a chance to explain
She said, just give me a chance, give me a chance
She said, just give me a chance to explain
She said, just give me a chance, give me a chance

You come on over, we?ll make it right
We?ll lay it down then we?ll kill the lights
You come on over, we?ll make it right
We?ll lay it down then we?ll kill the lights, yeah

Oh, with those curtains drawn, you know that she's so pretty
Oh, from those years of living in her car
Oh, in her soul there's a country but her body?s a city
Oh, where those freeways aren't free at all

She said, just give me a chance to explain
She said, just give me a chance, give me a chance
She said, just give me a chance to explain
She said, just give me a chance, give me a chance

You come on over, we?ll make it right
We?ll lay it down then we?ll kill the lights
You come on over, we?ll make it right
We?ll lay it down then we?ll kill the lights

You come on over, we?ll make it right
We?ll lay it down then we?ll kill the lights
You come on over, we?ll make it right
We?ll lay it down then we?ll kill the lights

You come on over, we?ll make it right
We?ll lay it down then we?ll kill the lights
And you, you can tell me what to do, you can tell me what to say
And you, you can tell me what to do, you can tell me what to say

You come on over, we?ll make it right
We?ll lay it down then we?ll kill the lights

This was originally called Down the Circus but then they added to it. I think its about prostitutes on the streets and how there is one girl that didnt belong but she didnt have anywhere else to turn, so she began living on the streets (and...in her car) and selling her body. Im not sure how they're going to "make it right" though... sounds like a pretty depressing situation. Anyone see it any other way? Amazing band though, too bad they're not together anymore :(

This song sounds like there is a prostitute but it's really a man

"Where those boys will be girls And those girls will be for hire

and the singer fell in love with him/her but walked in and discovered the truth one day, but when he thinks it over he's like I love this person for who they are not what they are and is like here come over and we can make this right...we can be together... just kill the lights, a sort of sweeping it under the rug solution by pretending it's a woman I suppose

but he loves her so he constantly uses the term her because in his mind its a girl and when he says "In her soul there’s a country But her body’s a city

hes saying shes one of a kind even if everyones already been in/through her/him because countries are unique but cities are everywhere and everyones been in a city ::WINK::

id believe it was a woman he fell in love with and discovered that shes a whore except for the line

"Where those boys will be girls "

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
