Whiskey-eyed in the moonlight, you swore
This thing will never come to pass
But drop you smack dab in the middle, you suddenly
Come to your senses at last.

Who's gonna hold you back
You're on a mission
Who's gonna hold you now?
Who's gonna hold you down
You little tease
Who's gonna hold you now
Who's gonna hold you?

Innocent child of a Saturday-night special
Your mama's rebel daughter
Has anyone ever told you your eyes are like the moon
I thought blood was thicker than water.

Who's gonna hold you back
They'll let you pick and choose
Who's gonna hold you now?
Who's gonna hold you down
I bet you'd like it
Who's gonna hold you now
Who's gonna hold you?

Promises just fade away
When you see the real McCoy
No one ever told you any fairy tales
When this girl meets boy
All bets are off.

Who's gonna hold you back?
It won't be me, sister
Who's gonna hold you now?
Who's gonna hold you down
You double-crosser
Who's gonna hold you now?
Who's gonna hold you now?
Who's gonna hold you now?
Who's gonna hold you?

The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
