Well the world is only a stage
And I'm just a man
With a sound caught in his throat
And a pick in his hand
But when the song comes tumbling out you understand
There's no great demand

Well it's there under your breath, behind your eyes
And you don't have to say nothing cause I realize
That everything somehow in someway eventually dies
It's life in disguise

It's your room and your board and your fireside
It's a shell that's been washed by a million tides
And if you're there you can see just how bright it shines

When there's nobody left in your heart, left in your head
When the whole world has packed up in shadows and left you for dead
When you can't fake a smile and you just can't get out of your bed
When the people you led turn to you looking so hungry and bare
And you were the one that had brought them there
And all you can do is just stare at your hands and whisper my name

Elenore Cecil Robert and Molly
Coco Rudy Maxwell wherever you are
Elenore Cecil Robert and Molly
Coco Rudy Maxwell wherever you are

    My Interpretation

Truly powerful track with multiple thoughts and meanings throughout the song. I like to believe that the first part "The world is just a stage and I'm just a man. with a sound caught in his throat and a pick in his hand"

means that all of this so called "reality" means nothing because at the end of the day what does it ultimately boil down to? This world is just a stage in the grand scheme of things and all you really are is just a human being. A human being singing with a sound that comes from the throat who happens to play guitar as well.

from there I like to imagine that despite knowing that nothing ultimately matters that the lyrics

"When the song comes tumbling out you understand... there is no great demand."

means that someone special seems to understand what you're going through and doesn't really want anything from you but still decides to be there for you. Therefore, creating personal meaning to life that something can matter despite it not being the big picture.

"And you don't have to say nothing because I realize that everything some how in some way eventually dies." On this part of the song feel that despite feeling whole with this other person that gave meaning to your life, they can hurt you and they can also depart from life. So then you're forced to go back into the sad reality that in the grand scheme of things even happiness dies (and the person you care about dies)

"Its life in disguise" To me this lyric represents not only that life really means death, but that it's not immediately present until you get to the end of it.

'It's your room and your board and your fireside It's a shell that's been washed by a million tides And if you're there you can see just how bright it shines"

In these lyrics I fell that again, we realize that nothing really matters but it's also in a way a beautiful miracle even in the most common things that we see everyday. Gratitude at the end is the key to finding meaning in this meaningless world.

"When there's nobody left in your heart, left in your head When the whole world has packed up in shadows and left you for dead When you can't fake a smile and you just can't get out of your bed."

In this section, I picture being in the state of nothingness. The feeling that you've been done soo wrong or just stop caring about anything and anyone. The world has just abandoned you in the worst way possible, without warning and without mercy. Then not being able to fake a smile anymore because you've been soo badly hurt that smiling feels hypocritical and you just don't have the energy to leave your bed where everything seems to be safer and predictable.

"When the people you led turn to you looking so hungry and bare And you were the one that had brought them there And all you can do is just stare at your hands and whisper my name"

This part is very interesting. I feel that the song makes a radical shift in whats going. I like to imagine a Jesus like person leading people to the promise land and realizing that nothing is going to save them there is no "easy heaven" so you being the leader feel guilty leading them to place where you're not even sure exists. So all you can do is stare at your hands and realize that the key to surviving and thriving in this world is simple.

So you call out the names of those who have followed you till the very end and you instruct them.

(Which I'm sure the names mentioned here are probably close friends or family members of The Slip)

"Elenore Cecil Robert and Molly Coco Rudy Maxwell wherever you are Elenore Cecil Robert and Molly Coco Rudy Maxwell wherever you are"

These names are symbolic for people that matter to The Slip or even you the listener. So the calling of their names means you are about to tell them something.

The secret to this meaningless world is to love and to give with your fellow human beings therefore ending the song with

"Share, share, share, share" And thats my take o the song. I hope you enjoyed it and see this song from my perspective.

I hope you have a wonderful day!

I think this song is about how everything is always changing, there are few, if any constants in life. The second verse "Well it's there under your breath, behind your eyes / And you don't have to say nothing cause I realize / That everything somehow in someway eventually dies / It's life in disguise" seems like its about a relationship in which one person has lost feelings and interest while the other is still in love, and without even having to say it out loud, it is recognized and accepted. I find this very sad. I think the main messages are that you have to accept change and accept failure and like 'music*ismyboyfriend' mentioned, you have to live life and try to find good amongst all the sadness.

    My Interpretation

I think this song is about guilt. Looking back on how things changed, how you and the people you loved are at this desolate place in life, and it's at least partly your fault. But your only one person, and life changes, and sometimes you can't control it. It is what it is and you are where you are.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
