"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
I close my eyes
Lay down and sleep away
There's no return
It's my mistake
There's no use in crying
It's time to learn
If you ever need someone
Sorry 'bout the things I've done
My life goes in reverse
If you ever change your mind
When the rainy days are gone
And the balance returns
All alone
This time I walk away
It feels so cold but I know It's something I deserve
I deserve to be mislead
Breaking up the family
I know it's my fault
It feels so cold but I know It's something I deserve
I deserve to be dead
Sorry 'bout the things I've done
Changes will come in the fall
Waiting for the storm
My face against the wall
Hoping that you could forgive me
You could forgive me
Forgive me
Lay down and sleep away
There's no return
It's my mistake
There's no use in crying
It's time to learn
If you ever need someone
Sorry 'bout the things I've done
My life goes in reverse
If you ever change your mind
When the rainy days are gone
And the balance returns
All alone
This time I walk away
It feels so cold but I know It's something I deserve
I deserve to be mislead
Breaking up the family
I know it's my fault
It feels so cold but I know It's something I deserve
I deserve to be dead
Sorry 'bout the things I've done
Changes will come in the fall
Waiting for the storm
My face against the wall
Hoping that you could forgive me
You could forgive me
Forgive me

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
Jesus Christ. I introduce to you the best song EVER by the N°1 of my favourites bands. I love so much The Rasmus (L) and this song really touched me a lot. I feel...identified. Yeah, that's the word. It has been realised with "In My Life" Single, it's hidden. It's about another of Lauri's apologies as many of us can see...but this one is special, because it's relationated with death. His death. "I know I hurted you a lot, and I made you feel so much pain, but I'm really sorry about it, and I want you to know that. I know I deserve everything because I hurted you. But please, forgive me" Something like that maybe?
Keep rocking with The Rasmus. They're my everything. And pay atention, this week they'll record their new album, and it'll be realised on the next year. Cheers!
Awesome band and song!!!! I'm surprised only one person has posted!
Hmm, I always link this song to those monumental mistakes we all make that really hurt the people we don't mean to and learning to live with them. At the end of the day, no matter how bad you may have messed up, all you can do is carry on and keep in mind that someday people might find it in themselves forgive you or a least give you the chance to redeem yourself.
It's a brilliant song, always picks me up when I'm feeling down. Can't believe it's only got a couple of comments.. :x
I read the lyrics many times and I came up with this fantastic interpretation: this song is about someone who's dieing. While this is happening he's thinking of his family (which is now broken because of his death), he did something which may appear wrong like telling a lie to not hurt someone. So he is hoping that while the time goes by after his death his family understands why he did those things in the past.
