Bird of Cuzco Lyrics
You must be starving
From your flight so long
The wind, the way it was blowing
I feel lonely not to have come
There the pounding of rain has flooded the dam
I can offer you my room you can sleep it off
Oh, let me be near
Do you
Mean to be saying
To me through a song
Be pleased
For everything's changing
Be not angry I have returned
How I tire of waking from the dream
Are we wired to be sad and wanting
Oh, let me sing
Oh, I love to sing
Let me lie for a while just thinking in the dark
Oh, leave me here
Oh, let me see clear

uah no one commented this one yet? my favorite of the album...
The meaning seems pretty clear, to me it's about a friend/loved one that travelled for such long time and now has finally returned... the singer wants to give him a home, a place to be. Some things have changed in the mean time, and the traveller tells the singer to not be angry or bothered, because life is in a mutation form all along, people never remain the same and those differences seem so more obvious when people away from each other for a long time. Not sure what the ending means though, suggestions would be appreciated
Bird as an allegory of soul. Cuzco mentioned in a title makes the song a tribute to late John Peel, who died there.

That is a beautiful reading of the song. It's very fluid but the song was written for the radio DJ John Peel, who was a great friend and mentor to Nina. She used to visit him at his family home and, I guess, she would sing for him there too. John peel died in Mexico in the town of Cuzco so the song is on one level very specifically about not seeing him before he died but more generally it is about love, friendship and regret. I think it's also aboutimportance of telling a loved one that they are...
