Cold steel rails in front of me, my steel city left behind.
Miles and miles of miles to go, it's another lonely night.
I see the tunnel up ahead is dark, it opens up and swallows me whole.
Can't see the light at the other end now. Sometime its gotta show.

I see my light shining through.
Shine on.
Shine on.
I've got the time to say to my friend,

Hey friend, that this ain't no easy road,
But it's the way I must travel, even if I have to ho alone.
I've seen the dreams of a broken man, broken, shattered and torn,
Have to stand on my own two feet, some time my day is gonna dawn.

I see the day is coming, won't have to wait no more.
I feel the rays-a-burning, burning through my open door, shine on through, shine on through.
Three days, 1500 miles quickly turns into a week.
Don't know my direction and I just can't get no sleep.

This petty ego is thriving on a teenage dream, it won't be long before we arrive,
Down on loser's street, yeah.
I see my light shining through,
I see my light shining through,

I see my light shining through,
My light a-shining through,
See the light shine through,
Shine on.

General CommentHow could you honestly get these lyrics so wrong?

It is "Don't feel the cold or wind or rain," not feet
In the first chorus it is "When the days all feel the same," not seem
In the very last chorus of the song he sings "When the stars all look the same," not when the days all feel the same....

Seriously can someone actually take some time to do lyrics correct for once? I don't mean to be an A hole here it just isn't that hard.

General Commenti love this song, probably my fav of the new album.

it is written about nic's dad who had passed on and nic tries to comfort his family with this song.

"It was inevitable I would write a song that dealt with all of that, but it was almost too big a subject for me to handle," Nic says. "Then I got a phone call from my mum saying everyone was fucked so I wrote the song through Dad's eyes, what he would say to help everyone through. We recorded it in one take, but it was fucking emotional, very heavy. We couldn't be happier with this album."

General CommentHe know's someone he cares for is sad, a ex-girlfriend possibly. He's hoping to see this person soon and wants her to know that he will "shine on for everyone" meaning he will be the best thing in her life to make up for how she feels. No matter how bad things seem know he will bring happiness to her. The moon and the stars bring light but if they don't shine they are not to worry cause he will be the light and he never let go of his feelings and he will not give up until she understands.

General CommentThis song has a special meaning to me.
The night i finally decided to stop cutting, i had a conversation with my best friend and i asked for her help. we both cried all night.
i told her: i love you, i dont know what i´d do without you.
    and she told me:
"That if the moon had to runaway
And all the stars didn't wanna play
Don't waste the sun on a rainy day
The wind will soon blow it all away"
i love that part, i cant listen to it without crying again.
since then, i havent cut myself anymore and when i need to do it or i feel sad, i listen to this song and it reminds me that im not alone and "there will always be a light"
    very beautiful song, really

General CommentOn the topic of Nic's dad dying, this happend when they were on tour in 2004 not when Nic was 3.

As mentioned by badda, this song was written by Nic about his father to help his family cope with his death and to remind them what John would say to help them get on with life.

My mum had a shop next to thier dad John's shop in Prahran market in the 80's. He was a great bloke and very highly respected. I think this song is an awesome tribute to John and people will love listening to it for years to come.

General CommentYeah I felt this song when I first listened to it, it has that deep sorta touchy feeling, and can't help listening to it a few more times after...Nic felt depressingly unseasoning...this song again as all or most of you have already explained, is about life after death. In this case Nic's father died, he tries to comfort his family coping with all of this tension around...very inspiring to see them pull this song off the new album...it will probably rise to the occasion that it has been a hit since...a month ago...

General Commentl feel Nic's pain writing this beautiful song for his family. We recently (Feb 2007) used it at my brothers funeral, he also died of cancer. The words that stand out the most 'Please dont cry' because my brother asked me many times not to cry...l know he shines on but l still cry. Thank you Nic for a wonderful song that will always share space in my heart with my brother.
