"The Last Song I'm Wasting on You" as written by and Amy Lee....
Sparkling grey
There my own veins

Any more than a whisper
Any sudden movement of my heart
And I know
I know I'll have to watch them pass away
Just get through this day

Give up your way
You could be anything
Give up my way
And lose myself?

Not today
That's too much guilt to pay

Sickened in the sun
You dare tell me you love me
But you held me down and screamed you wanted me to die,

Honey, you know
You know, I'd never hurt you that way
You're just so pretty in your pain

Give up my way
And I could be anything
I'll make my own way
Without your senseless hate

So run, run, run
And hate me if it feels good
I can't hear your screams anymore

You lied to me
But I'm older now
And I'm not buyin' baby

Demanding my response
Don't bother breaking the door down
I've found my way out
And you'll never hurt me again

General CommentYou know, I'm sick and tired of people talking this bullshit about Ben, that he's a horrible, abusive, nasty, hateful, resentful maniac, and that Amy's the poor, hurt, sweet, loving, forgiving person. Let me just say this: I do not KNOW every single detail about their relationship, and I can only base my viewpoint on what I know of.

Now, what I do know is that Ben has always said in countless interviews that he has absolute respect for Amy, and for the rest of the band, that he wishes her well and has no angry, hateful feelings towards her whatsoever. I can understand that Amy doesn't want to talk with him, but I think it's just plain UNFAIR that she makes it seem like he "hates" her and wants her to die and all that crap, because she is the one who keeps bitching about him, and all he does is say how much he "loves" and "respects" her. Which is good, I do not criticize that at all, but I think that Amy should do that as well, and not tarnish his public reputation by claiming he was abusive and hates her and SHIT like that. If she was in a bad relatonship with him, that's a fact, but she doesn't need to lie about him. He does NOT hate her, but it seems to me that she hates him. Recently I read a Kerrang! interview with her where she claims that Ben loathes her, and that Shaun Morgan hates her too. WHICH IS SUSPICIOUS. I have nothing against her writing a song about Shaun to make the dirty laundry of their relationship public, even though I don't think that's the coolest way to pay him back, but she makes herself look like the ditched poor little girl and makes Shaun look like an asshole. And I can perfectly undertsand his anger about Amy, but that does not mean that he "hates" her. Neither does it mean that Ben hates her, and she knows that damn well. Ben apparenlty called her several times and left her a few voicemails saying that if she wants to, she can feel free to call him, if not, then not, but he wanted her to know that he has made peace with himself, and with her too.

And what does she do? She uses his statements against him and claims the exact oppposite. She makes everyone think that she is so nice and sweet and forgives him "despite him being an asshole", and that he, on the contrary, "loathes" her. THAT SUCKS, and even though I try hard to understand Amy's statements, I just can't.

You guys all seem to believe this shit. I'm not trying to defend Ben for something I don't know about anyway, but I WILL in fact defend him from being considered some hateful big bad abusive bastard, becuase THAT IS NOT WHAT HE IS.

I am also not trying to make Amy seem like a bitch, but I'm sorry for having to admit that what she is currently doing to Ben and Shaun and apparently everyone else around her is nothing but MEAN.

There's no reason other than to gain attention and sympathy for making her ex-boyfriends seem like assholes who hate her, when they don't. At least I know that Ben doesn't hate her. AND I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT.

Amy obviously leaves all of you walking away with the wrong picture. Hell, even I would believe Ben's some abusive bastrad if I didn't know the truth.

I know very well that this site is about song meanings, but I think it is also important to keep people from believing some bullshit they hear about somebody else. Face it, Amy is the one who's bitter. If anyone hates anyone else in here, it's her.

Anyway, I hate it when people always refer to the person singing the song to the one who they talk about - I mean like "Amy is, Amy says, Amy wants, Amy thinks"..... please. Can't you just stick to "the 'I' in the song"? Everything's always just about Amy. I say FUCK THAT.

Man, I'm so pissed off, I don't know what to say.

General Commenti love this song! its so fun to sing along to, so i think that its about how she does so much for him, but he just doesnt really see all that she had done and he lies to her and hurts her and just isnt really there. and she hates it so shes stuck in this relationship that she doesnt want to be in, and she finally ends it. and she feels better than wen she was with him. cause now that she locked that door behind her and he will never hurt her again.

General CommentThe beginning, "Sparkling grey, through my own veins" gives a good imagery that she's hurting her self because she is in a bad relationship. After being brought down over and over again, in the end she's stronger for the decision she's made. So now she's telling whoever that you can hate me now, because I overcame the abuse you put me through. It's a very good song. Sucks it didn't make the cut though.

General CommentThis is my take on the song's meaning.
I'm almost certain it was written about Amy and Ben's relationship, the way he had been treating her, and the ways in which she reacted to that treatment.

    "Sparkling grey
    Then my own veins.."
-- I read somewhere that the lyric was "then" instead of "through", but I could be wrong.. but anyway, Amy had looked into Ben's eyes, which may or may not actually be that colour (?), but "grey" because he saw her coldly and mistreated her, and "sparkling" because despite this, she loved him anyway.
"Then my own veins" suggests that because her love was not returned, she was torn apart by his gestures of abuse, and hurt herself ("my own veins" is the metaphor for hurting herself, though it may not be specifically by cutting her wrists).

    "Any more than a whisper
Any sudden movement of my heart
And I know, I know I'll have to watch them pass away
    Just get through this day"
-- Amy was forced to be so cautious about her actions, like speaking up for herself ("any more than a whisper") and expressing her desires ("any sudden movement of my heart"), because he would immediately crush her dreams, not allowing her to do anything. (It could suggest their clashes when it came to writing music, as Amy has mentioned in interviews.) This was a constant happening, and everyday she just wanted to make her time pass by as quietly as possible, so he wouldn't get riled up and start hurting her again.

"Give up your way, you could be anything,
Give up my way, and lose myself
    Not today
That's too much guilt to pay.."
-- She knew that to surrender would be to give herself up; what's the point living a life if you can't lead your own way through it? Then, speaking from a point later on in the relationship, Amy finally refused to give in to him, saying she can't keep doing it and living in the guilt of never taking action.

    "Sickened in the sun
You dare tell me you love me
But you held me down and screamed you wanted me to die"
-- "Sickened in the sun" is a metaphor for being burned by something you thought was good for/to you, or in this case, a metaphor for hypocracy; Ben had convinced her that yes, he DID love her back - practically the next minute he was holding her down and wishing death upon her.

"..But you held me down and screamed you wanted me to die
Honey you know, you know I'd never hurt you that way
You're just so pretty in your pain.."
-- These lines describe the way he hurt her - brutally, and driven by hate. She's telling him now that she would never hurt him for the same reasons - unlike his straight-out loathing, Amy would hurt him for the sake of enjoying his pain. Because she has been trodden on so many times by him, the feeling of taking her revenge on him and seeing him as the victim gives her a kind of happiness, and she takes a moment to stand back and admire the sight.

The rest of the song just talks about her path to freedom; how she's changed, how she won't let him overcome her from now on and nothing he can do will stop her from doing what she wants to do in her own life.

General CommentIt sucks that people who preordered on iTunes got this song, while the rest of us who bought the album and paid much more don't get it. There's somethng seriously wrong with that.
Well anyway, about the song....it is definitely a true song. If this is about Ben Moody, then WOW...I had no idea he was treating her bad. It's strange how he can have a song like "You", and the next it's "the last song being wasted". Well, anyway, I think anybody in this situation can relate.
