Here's a lullaby, for anyone who wants to fly,
from their hometown where people drown,
and where the townies die.

This old library, has thirty books and one dictionary.
But thats ok, no one reads anyway,
we all watch tv.

So here's your lullaby.
No boy, don't cry.
Just rest your head and go to bed,
your time will come to fly...

away.

Never today, just dream your life away.
Sleep

(vocalising)

All the dogs will die.
They just can't seem to stay alive.
Cause in this town, our cop shoots them down.
And we just let him go and sigh.

Please god, please.
Whats happened to our dreams?
We're losing hope, so we invest in dope
to feel our vacant feelings

So here's your lullaby.
no girl, don't cry.
Just rest your head and go to bed,
your time will come to fly...

away.

Never today, just dream your life away.
Sleep

(vocalising)

i think this song is spoused to be sung to God. asking him why people have no hope? and why they waster their lifes taking drugs.

i love the meaning to this song. i feel the absolute same way. i ask God all the time why people do such stupid things.

I saw her perform in March 2007 (twice), and she introduced this song by saying that she herself had grown up in small-town Pennsylvania, and was eager to see life beyond that town. So it seems sort of autobiographical. She also mentions in between songs about how she drove to LA on her own, and that is was a sort of intimidating experience. So I think the song is also a lullaby to herself and young people like her who travel far from home and family, cope with loneliness in order to pursue a dream: patiently singing and writing songs in Hollywood, in hopes of making it big...

I think it's saying that small towns may be all that you know for now but eventually you will be able to break free of all of that, so for now you can sleep knowing that tomorrow may be the day you get to move on...

It really makes you feel safe knowing that you can always move and grow past this place that your stuck in... maybe the small town is the world, and tthe other place is whatever is beyond here

Shes telling you to stay young. Keep dreaming. You don't need marijuana to be creative or to dream. If you are patient and stick with good intentioned dreams, they will come true. Keep the kid inside of you always.

I also agree with softsweetnoise. She is asking God why many people are unhappy. The answer, from what i've seen, is that it is due to our culture. It is desensitizing and constantly lies to you about what true happiness is. From tv and movies to the pressures put on by society such as the absurdity of high school drama, this is not how God intended us to live. Priscilla Ahn is tapping into this idea. You will not be at peace if you confirm to what society wants you to be. It will take away your dreams and your innocence. Your heart will harden and you will lose sight of dreams. Pray to God that you do not fall into this trap and you will find peace. Deny the world and you will find true life.

Her voice is beautiful. Very soothing and pure.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
