And there's a feeling in the morning
That I can get my stomach screams a warning
As my first thoughts are forming in my head
And I can lay between the covers
Remember how I loved another
And postpone my slow recovery

but I can fall asleep tonight
If I can make it home by the daylight
When I recall the times that I was left alone
'cause in the glimmer of your eye
I begin to see myself in a different light

And there's a feeling in the morning
That I can get my stomach screams a warning
As my first thoughts are forming in my head
And they say, "whoa, baby, I gotta go...
And I hate to let you know that this way."

but I can fall asleep tonight
If I can make it home by the daylight
When I recall the times that I was left alone
'cause in the glimmer of your eye
I begin to see myself in a different light

but I can fall asleep tonight
If I can make it home by the daylight
When I recall the times that I was left alone
'cause in the glimmer of your eye
I begin to see myself in a different light
Whoa, oh oh oh...

Uh.. after reading through the lyrics a few times I think this is about a guy who is leaving a girl (#1).. maybe driving away after he slept with her? I think in a way he was trying to get over another girl (girl #2)... or maybe he actually still loves #2? But I think the one he was with in bed (#1) really loved him, and he feels bad about leaving but he still has feelings for #2. Like he recalls the times that he was left alone (probably from girl #2 leaving him in the past) and he's beginning to see himself as the same kind of bad person through the glimmer of girl #1's eyes. But the guy thinks that if he can make it home by the daylight he'll be able to sleep and not worry about it.

    That's how I see it.

Eh... I sort of thought that this was about, you know, the first few moments of drowsiness when you wake up, when you don't think or remember anything about most things... and that, the person in the song is recalling a past relationship... that maybe failed because of him... and now he's seeing himself as the way she saw him... sort of.

I don't know. Your explaination works really well, too. That's what I love about songs... so many possible meanings.

    My Interpretation

I feel like this song is about a person who has felt alone for the longest time after being hurt from a past lover. He has had an epiphany after perhaps a night of drinking ("stomach screams a warning"? could be also just waking up and feeling hungry I suppose.) I think this song really capture that moment after said epiphany that he actually feels really great now that he has the ability to reflect on his past lover and well "postpone his slow recovery." By saying he is recovering it is safe to assume he was hurt. He is probably dating/with someone who doesn't respect him or he does not respect because he was hurt (rebound or whatever he could have gotten?) Upon waking up he has more confidence (as also emulated in the actual instrumental music, starting off with the ecclesiastical sound in the beginning and the excitement that continues throughout) and is happier because he realizes he doesn't need his past lover or whoever he with now to be happy. Thus he "can fall asleep tonight."

What are your thoughts on my interpretation? :)

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
