And when God gave out rhythm
He sure was good to you.
You can add, subtract, multiply and divide...
By two.

I know today's your birthday,
And I did not buy no rose.
But I wrote this song instead and I call it,
"Popsicle Toes".

Popsicle toes.
Popsicle toes are always froze.
Popsicle toes.
You're so brave to expose all those popsicle toes.

You must have been Miss Pennsylvania
With all this pulchritude.
How come you always load your Pentax
When I'm in the nude?

We oughta have a birthday party,
And you can wear you birthday clothes
We can hit the floor
And go explore those
Popsicle toes.

You got the nicest North America
This sailor ever saw.
I'd like to feel your warm Brazil
And touch your Panama

But Your Tierra del Fuegos
Are nearly always froze.
We gotta see saw
until we unthaw those
Popsicle toes.

Popsicle toes.
Popsicle toes are always froze.
Popsicle toes.
You're so brave to expose all those popsicle toes

In October 2010 I am the first person to comment on one of the best lyricists of last century?

Well let's get right to it.

    Pulchritude means physical beauty.

Pentax is a reference to a camera.

Birthday clothes = birthday suit = the nude

The allegory goes from top down comparing a globe to a woman's body.

    North America = face

    BRAzil = breasts

    Panama = vagina

    Tierra del Fuegos = toes

    see saw = have sex

    Well let me try

God gave out rhythm, refers to her sexy walk, her motions and moves

"Add, subtract, divide by two" refers to her breasts, her eyes, her legs, but mainly her breasts, overpowering me.

    "Popsicles toes" are her nipples

"Load your Pentax when I'm in the nude", means she gets turned on when i'm nude

"Birthday Party" means get naked and have sex, and so does hit the floor and explore

Pulchritude here means enamored by her breasts

"brave to expose those popsicle toes" are her nipples protruding through her shirt

"I always froze" means i can't help but stare

"Miss Pennsylvania" again refers to her pointy nipples

Again "Nicest North America" refers to her torso, breasts again

But I think BRAzil = her butt (but if not it's her breasts)

    Panama = vagina

"Tierra del Fuegos are nearly always froze" = healthy pointy nipples

we gotta see saw until we unthaw those -- Posicle Toes = have sex until her pointers warm and soften

I agree with most of the previous posters, but I think Popsicle Toes is exactly that, cold toes. It is why he wrote "You're so brave to expose ALL those popsicle toes". If he meant nipples, I don't think he would have wrote ALL. Pulchritude means beauty, loveliness etc. Tierra del Fuego is at the southern tip of Argentina, so probably toes. North America= Breasts or torso? Miss Pennsylvania? Not sure what that means. Brazil has gotta be breasts. If you look at it on a map, the way it is shaped will make you think breasts. Panama I believe might mean clitoris. Again, look at Panama on a map. What female part comes to mind? Anyway, great song by a great artist.

C'mon kids. This is a song about a Catholic couple about to make a baby. Rhythm refers to the rhythm system. Have you ever seen those Catholic dolls add, subtract, multiply and divide by two to calculate when they can or can't concieve a baby? They make Einstein look like a piker. I know today's your birthday, i.e. the day we can concieve a child.

The nicest North America is a woman's upper torso, where they ALL keep their breasts. Their warm Brazil is their difference between boys and girls, and their Panama is their waist.

Her Tierra del Fuegos are her feet where she keeps her Popsicle Toes. And exploring Popsicle Toes usually happens when a couple is undraped (naked) and in physical contact with each other.

Miss Pennsylvania could be any state. She might as well have been Miss Florida or Miss Wyoming. With all this pulcratude she is a beauty queen, and are all the Miss's.

What the deal is with her Pentax I have yet to figure out. But, a couple taking pictures of each other while they are equipped to make a baby doesn't seem impossible to me.

And if the lyrics mean nothing it is, as said before, a great song by a great artist

    My Interpretation

Popsicle toes = COLD FEET, which is slang for being nervous about something (usually sex or commitment). The narrator wants to help his sweetheart get over her nervousness about either having sex with him, committing to him, or both

I believe that "unthaw" is used incorrectly since this would mean to freeze. It would be more correct, and fit in the song as-well, to say "can thaw". I guess that's artistic license.

Pretty much I agree. However, I think that North America is her upper body in general. Also, warm Brazil and Panama is most likely wordplay on brassiere and panties. I also always thought that "add, subtract, multiply....divide by 2" referred to the phenomenon of producing eggs and reproducing (multiplying) and dividing the cell into 2, 4, 8 etc. as a fetus develops.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms. “Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
