Turning tricks with absent guile
Reeling in your crooked smile
Why did I turn to you
I only
Wanted a hand to pour my heart into
And now I
Bumb my grin through anouther night
Lose my my mind in anouther fight
Why did I turn to you
I only
Gave you a chance
To prove the rumors true
And now I'm
Paying with my
Paying with my life
I'm paying with my life
My life
My life
So let the record show
That you murdered me
In your coldest blood
With your
Own two hands
Don't think no one understands
It happens everyday
Working life like a burlesque show
Get them off
And they'll let you go
Why did I turn to you
I only
Turned out to be
One more girl you slew
And now I
Bumb my grind
In anouther
Lose my mind
In anouther
Why
Why
Why
Why
I only
Gave you a chance
To prove the rumors true
And now
I'm paying with my
Paying with my life
I'm paying with my life
My life
My life
So let the record show
That you murdered me
In your coldest blood
With your own two hands
Don't think no one understands
It happens everyday
Your jelouse
Oh
Your jelouse
Why
It's a simple excuse
For a complex crime
So write this on your soul
Or don't waste my time
If I'm going down
Then I'm going down good
I'm going down
Then I'm going down clean
I'm going down
Then I'm going
The prettiest broken girl
That you've ever seen
If I'm going down
Then I'm going down good
I'm going down
Then I'm going down clean
I'm going down
Then I'm going
The prettiest wretched whore
That you've ever seen
And while I breath
I know I've got no way
To prove my end
And so you'll walk away
Nope! wrong again
So let the record show
That you murderd me
In your coldest blood
With your own two hands
Don't think no one understands
It happens everyday
Your jelouse
Oh
Your jelouse
Why
It's a simple excuse
For a complex crime
So write this on your soul
And let it show
That you murderd me
In your coldest blood
With your own two hands
Don't think no one understands
It happens everyday
Your jelouse
Oh
Your jelouse
Why
It's a simple excuse
For a complex crime
So write this on your soul
Or don't waste my time

    My Interpretation

I believe it fits the Jack the Ripper interpretation- the jealousy could be of the fact that the girl, being a prostitute, will sleep with other men [because that is her trade]. Perhaps this brought a jealous streak, giving reason to kill.

Although, it could be the point of view of a woman mentally and/or physically abused by a partner. She could possibly have left him because of this, and feel somewhat 'broken' because of this.

Either way, it stands as one of my favourite songs from the talented Miss Autumn. :)

The first line is wrong. It should ne "Turning tricks with absent guile."

"Tricks" is slang for prostitution. I could definitely see the Jack the Ripper angle. But like borderline.lady said, what would the jealous line mean?

I also think the song could have something to do with serial killer Thomas Neill Cream, who would "date" prostitues and poison them on the dates.

I'm surprised to see no one has commented this song yet. It seems to be another song about rape, yet still so very commanding all it's own. Miss Autumn's beatiful voice brings a power to this song (and all of her songs) that might scare some. I love it!

not quite sure, if it's about rape or sexual abuse. More likely I think it's about a girl who gets exploited by a man. She knew who she got involved with, someone who slews each girl he could have, she heard the rumours about him. But she wanted to give him the chance to prove, it's not true what they say. It was true though.

i read somewhere that this song was meant to be from the point of view of a murdered victorian prostitute...

My two cents says that this song is about the killing spree Jack the Ripper went on in England where he murdered a bunch of whores and how he had help from some other men. The way that that he lured them in was he would offer them a shoulder and some charming conversation, give them some wine and luxurious foods and then he would force them to demean themselves and then kill them, so I think she's vibing to ode to that and talking about how if she's going to be murdered she's going to be the prettiest whore he'd ever taken.

One could also add that the prostitute who was killed wants the record to show that she was killed and who killed her. I think she wants revenge and not to be forgotten.

I agree with SnowNinja. Hearing it the first time I got the feeling that it was about Jack the Ripper, since it IS about murder and whores, and since EA is known for being interested in victorian history. Still the line: "Youre jealous, oh, Youre jealous why?" Stands as a riddle to me. Jack the Ripper murdered the whores because he disliked them, not because he was jealous, I think?

Well I see it from another point of view. It could be about a girl who is married/goes out with a man that is quite violent and he has murdered other women but he is not in jail (or whatever) because police (or whoever LOL) had no proof. Maybe every night he comes back at home drunk, and that's why she say something about another fight and another night. And she knows everything that is going to happen, so she records the murder to have a proof so they can catch them. And having a relationship would make more sense for the "Youre jealous, oh, Youre jealous why?" part than if she was a prostitute. Oh! And sorry for my bad English people lol

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
