Take me as you are
Push me off the road
The sadness
I need this time to be with you
I'm freezing in the sun
I'm burning in the rain
The silence
I'm screaming, calling out your name

And I do reside in your light
Put out the fire with me and find
Yeah, you'll lose the side of your circles
That's what I'll do if we say goodbye

To be is all I gotta be
And all that I see
And all that I need this time
To me the life you gave me
The day you said goodnight

The calmness in your face
That I see through the night
The warmth of your light is pressing unto us
You didn't ask me why
I never would have known
Oblivion is falling down

And I do reside in your light
Put out the fire with me and find
Yeah, you'll lose the side of your circles
That's what I'll do if we say goodbye

To be is all I gotta be
And all that I see
And all that I need this time
To me the life you gave me
The day you said goodnight
If you could only know me like your prayers at night
Then everything between you and me will be alright

To be is all I gotta be
And all that I see
And all that I need this time
To me the life you gave me
The day you said goodnight

She's already taken
She's already taken
She's already taken me
She's already taken
She's already taken me

The day you said goodnight

The song is about a pregnant woman getting an abortion. Giving life, and losing side of circles meaning the pregnant belly shrinking due to abortion, push off the road equals abortion.

    My Interpretation

At first I thought it was just words jumbled together to make it catchy, then I realize there are much more than those words.

--Take me as you are Push me off the road The sadness I need this time to be with you I’m freezing in the sun I’m burning in the rain The silence I’m screaming Calling out your name--

The singer, seems to be sad because that someone can't be with him. Because of that, he's freezing in the sun, burning in the rain, somewhat opposites of the usual reactions, kind of signifying he's so sad, because the one he's calling to is not with him at the moment.

[Pre-Chorus] --And I do Reside in your light Put out the fire with me and find Yeah you lose the side of your circles That’s what I’ll do if we say goodbye--

Although sad, he still believes into that someone, and believes that if that someone keeps ignoring him, she'll lose herself, but only if she already knows him because he can do things that'll probably change her view, thus "Put out the fire with me and find" part.

[Chorus] --To be is all I got to be And all that I see And all that I need this time To me the life you gave me The day you said goodnight--

To be what he is, that's the only thing he can do, and the only thing he can see and need is the life she gave to him, that single moment or day, when she said goodnight to him.

--The calmness in your face That I see through the night The warmth of your light is pressing unto us You didn’t ask me why I never would have known Oblivion is falling down--

They've met actually, but only occasionally, specially during the night where they both go homes, as they're neighbors or live close to each other, that's why he can see her "calm face" during the night, and also how she said goodnight to him.

However, she didn't know that she gives off this "vibe" where he feels so good, feels so happy, that she didn't bothered to ask why. Eventually he figured out, but at the same time, oblivion fell down, means there's something bad bound to happen.

--If you could only know me Like your prayers at night then everything between you and me will be alright--

Upon this part, he believes that if she knows him more, then they'll be together, and things will be better if she tries to know him more.

    [Chorus]

Upon this final chorus, things started to slow down, as he tries to revoke the emotion when the day she said goodnight, for one last time.

--She’s already taken She’s already taken--

He knows that she have a boyfriend, lover, and that's the reason they can't be together because he does not want to meddle in her relationship.

--She’s already taken me-- However in this line, he's already in love with her which he can't stop more longer, that's why he's stuck on being sad, then happy whenever he remembers the day she says goodnight to him, the time when she made him happy.

--The day you said goodnight -- Last line, the title, and of course the whole meaning of this song, remembering the day she said goodnight.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
