In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
I'm tied with indecision
I know exactly what I mean
Too hard to deal with bullshit stalemates
Stalemates of deceit
So I hit the bottle
I hit the bottle with both hands
I hit the bottle so I could speak
Look down on me
Your friends all want to have your back
A vampire sucking on your neck
Fairweather friends are all I see
This town has taught me how to...
Sleep with one eye open
That's the price you pay
For pulling all your faith
And everything we've done
It's no surprise to me
That's the price you pay
You built your life from clay
And you watched that sculpture dry and crack and break
All it needed was some care
All it needed...
Waking up holding my head
This hangover reminds me every day
Of the things that I've done wrong
And tomorrow it'll all be gone
It'll all be gone
There's only tonight
So say your goodbyes
I know exactly what I mean
Too hard to deal with bullshit stalemates
Stalemates of deceit
So I hit the bottle
I hit the bottle with both hands
I hit the bottle so I could speak
Look down on me
Your friends all want to have your back
A vampire sucking on your neck
Fairweather friends are all I see
This town has taught me how to...
Sleep with one eye open
That's the price you pay
For pulling all your faith
And everything we've done
It's no surprise to me
That's the price you pay
You built your life from clay
And you watched that sculpture dry and crack and break
All it needed was some care
All it needed...
Waking up holding my head
This hangover reminds me every day
Of the things that I've done wrong
And tomorrow it'll all be gone
It'll all be gone
There's only tonight
So say your goodbyes

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
