In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Now listen I think you and me have come to the end of our time
What d'ya want? Some kinda reaction? Well OK that's fine
Alright how'd it make you feel if I said you never made me come
In the year and a half that we spent together yeah I never really had much fun
All the times that I said I was sober, well I'm afraid I lied
I'd be lying next to you and you next to me
All the while I was high as a kite
I can see it in your face as you break it to me gentle yeah you really must think you're great
Well let's see how you feel in a couple of weeks when I work my way through your mates
I never wanted it to end up this way
You've only got yourself to blame
I'm gonna tell the world you're rubbish in bed now
And that you're small in the game
So you thought this was gonna be easy, well you're out of luck
Well let's rewind let's turn back time
To when you couldn't get it up
You know what it shoulda ended there
That's when I shoulda shown you the door
As if that weren't enough to deal with
You became premature
Sorry if ya feel that I'm being kinda mental
But you left me in such a state
Now I'm gonna do to you what you did to me
I'm gonna reciprocate
What d'ya want? Some kinda reaction? Well OK that's fine
Alright how'd it make you feel if I said you never made me come
In the year and a half that we spent together yeah I never really had much fun
All the times that I said I was sober, well I'm afraid I lied
I'd be lying next to you and you next to me
All the while I was high as a kite
I can see it in your face as you break it to me gentle yeah you really must think you're great
Well let's see how you feel in a couple of weeks when I work my way through your mates

I'm gonna tell the world you're rubbish in bed now
And that you're small in the game

Fast Car

Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.

girl power!
I think this song is cute. =] I don't care how bratty or immature or spoiled it sounds. It's such a good song to up your mood once you;ve just broken up.
OMG, stollhardy, nothing about "Knock 'Em Out" is slutty at all! It's about how girls are constantly propositioned by guys even when we aren't asking for it!
Is this about the same guy that "Not Fair" is about??
Also, some of the lyrics posted here are wrong in small ways. And the contraction for "you are " is "you're" not "your." I don't think that is such a hard concept.
I love how poppy this song feels!
I think loads of girls will be able to relate to this...I know I can :)
ITS ABOUT HER EX. WHO HAD A SMALL WILLY :D
seriously, 'willy'?
Definitely shows she's no average pop-star!
The lyrics to this song and her song "Knock 'em out" just make her seem like a shallow, disloyal, bar-frequenting slut. It's funny in a way, but this isn't exactly the way I would want to present myself to the world.
shes just normal. im sure every girl has had a time when shes with her girlmates and they discuss this kinda thing. specially just after the break up.
She's not normal shes completely rich and doesn't write her own songs based on going to her Daddies parties with his acting buddies. Also this song completely nicks the tune from Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secure by Arctic Monkeys.
arctic monkeys are good. regardless... who gives a damn? i'd rather she sang and didn't write than wrote and sounded terrible singing it.
