Station 5: The Pearl Lyrics

You're like an anchor tied around my ankle.
But I wanna swim, but, but, but I gotta breathe. Oh, oh.

They're big, fuckin stars. I swear to God they are.

For all the money that you spend, we will earn it.
Hold ourselves responsible - we're good for it.
Got a bad, bad feeling that you won't.
At least now you can't say I didn't ask.

Push it back, push it back, bring usback up front.
Gaining momentum now, uh huh, you're falling in love.
Would you like it? Wait your turn.
Wait. Or would you like it again?

They're big, fuckin stars. I swear to God they are.

For all the money that you spend, we will earn it.
Hold ourselves responsible - we're good for it.
Got a bad, bad feeling that you won't.
At least now you can't say I didn't ask.

Can't say I didn't
Ask yourself to do anything
Was the trust ourselves
Guess it's clear that's not what's going on.

you're like an anchor tied around my ankle
you're like a ship that passes right on by
you're like the kid on a shore thats just like wrapped in a wave
and we're just waiting to die

they're big fucking stars i swear to god they are

for all the money that you spend
we will earn it
hold ourselves responsible
we're good for it
gotta bad bad feeling that you won't
at least now you can't say i didn't ask.

Are they fans of Lost? The end was so bittersweet... The characters have often held themselves responsible for things that were not their fault, and I believe Jack and Kate are sometimes described as "two ships passing in the night". The Pearl station was set up by a group of scientific researchers (The DHARMA Initiative, but this is irrelevant) to perform psycological experiments. So therfore it could have to do with the speaker feeling as though he is being manipulated. Or perhaps, in accordance with events on the mythical island which contains these stations, the hopelessness of his situation and the frustration he has to deal with because of the people he is with.

Just rambling here, I really can't say anything conclusive, I would like to hear other opinions.

I think this song is about their label, like most songs on the album
