One foot closer every step faster
Catastrophe avoided were in the same place
Reaching surface eyes to the wall
Watch when we fall dont look away see it all
I sit embraced by this disgrace
You move elegant silence my regrets

Grasping clichés nothings changed
Im just the same as before, Ive looked no further
Grasping clichés all sound the same
Im just the same as before, Ive looked no further

Weve been building relentless unforgiving
Destroying and making while they were suffering
They scream and they cry weve only time to say goodbye
It was over before we left forgive forget dont pretend
I sit embraced by this disgrace you move elegant silence my regrets

Grasping clichés nothings changed
Im just the same as before, Ive looked no further
Grasping clichés all sound the same
Im just the same as before, Ive looked no further

Grasping clichés
Weve not changed
I bet you wont change a thing
All they need is your charity
Messed around enough to know
Which directions good to go
You are just as responsible
Dont turn your eyes to the wall
Need to see this for yourself
Need to save them from this hell

Grasping clichés nothings changed
Im just the same as before, Ive looked no further
Grasping clichés nothings changed
Im just the same as before, Ive looked no further

I'm not too sure why but i get a feeling this songs about the current shit state of the world! how everyone's trying to "help" and in the end turning a blind eye and leaving it even worse than before! (American's i mean you!!)! Just consider these:

Weve been building, Destroying and making while they were suffering, It was over before we left.

basically just showing up, make the place "better" (or so they think), and then move onto somewhere else even though they have no reason to! Just think Iraq, Afghanistan!

And the whole "turning your eyes to the wall"-just looking away, and not really fixing anything-"nothing's changed, i looked no further"!

At some points it seems like it's talking about a relationship starting again after it's been messed up before - "Grasping clichés nothings changed Im just the same as before, Ive looked no further" But what deceptive said fits better with the whole song so I'll go with that. I love this song.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
