We All Look Elsewhere Lyrics

A lost sense of direction
Nobody knows my name
Confidence, correction
I don't know how to play that game
A straight line is quicker
A straight line would make me fast
I've burned my nose enough to know
That straight lines never last

Swallow your soul, drink from this life
As you choke on your pride
We all look elsewhere
We all look elsewhere

It's safer inside doors
Nobody has to flee
A broken vessel passed the rocks and out to sea
Waiting, wanting, mad with purpose
Now we come to talk to one
Who has the answers to how

Swallow your soul, drink from this life
As you choke on your pride
Don't waste your time if you've got it
The tides are turning now
You are not alone
They gave you their worst and you bought it
The lie has been exposed
You are not alone
Like winter that comes quick
In early September
The rain clouds that washed me
Are what I remember
The stones that I threw piled high like a mountain
Which I had to climb before I reach the fountain
If life a riddle then riddle me this
The blood tasted sweet as it passed by my lips

Don't, don't waste your time
Don't, don't waste your time
Don't waste your time
Don't waste your time if you've got it
The tides are turning now
You're not alone
Liar, liar
They gave you their worst and you bought it
The lie has been exposed
You are not alone

Why has no one else commented on this song. Its absolutely amazing.

Swallow your soul, drink from this life As you choke on your pride We all look elsewhere

its so true. Its exactly how it goes, we all look else where but what we really have to do is swallow our souls and drink from HIS life. We most definitely have to choke on our pride.

"The blood tasted sweet as it passed by my lips"

I think that line really has to do with Communion. The wine represents the blood of Jesus Christ which we are cleansed by and forgiven of our sins.

That line makes a lot more sense now.

Well this song is clearly about drugs. most of you guys are looking too hard at it.

A straight line is quicker A straight line would make me fast I've burned my nose enough to know That straight lines never last

cocaine is quicker, cocaine makes him feel fast, but it burns enough to know the fun never last. this cant be a reference to the Holy path God has set before us because it says "That straight lines never last." Gods path for us is always there.

Kionabreeze is basicaly right.

"The blood tasted sweet as it passed by my lips"

i think this part has to do with nose bleeding after cocaine use.

just think about it. the meaning of the lyrics will pop out at you.

I don't know anything about drugs, but that makes a lot of sense.

"Swallow your soul, drink from this life" IMO This is the "Lie" that has been exposed. Satan tempts us to Swallow our soul and refute the good word of God whilst also drinking from "this life". TCC means "This life" as the life that leads to destruction, a life on the wide road. Sarcastically, the end of this lie is a call to "choke" on our pride, which as another person said, is choking on our ambitions and selfishness. True life is living humbly, according to God's word, drinking from the well that never runs dry.

"Like winter that comes quick In early September The rain clouds that washed me Are what I remember"

I think this is a call to the song "21st night of September" by Earth, Wind and Fire. Except instead of chasing the clouds away, the clouds are what washed his sin away, and upon belief in Christ it came quick "Like winter that comes quick In September"

"The stones that I threw piled high like a mountain Which I had to climb before I reach the fountain If life a riddle then riddle me this The blood tasted sweet as it passed by my lips" The stones are the sins, the taking God's name in vain that he had to deal with while climbing the Mountain. The fountain is Christ and his blood which was poured out for our sins which is sweet redemption.

WOW, this song is just amazing on the CD. The guitars sound so much better and so much cleaner. By far my favorite Classic Crime song ever. Best bridge i've ever heard.

"A lost sense of direction "Nobody knows my name Confidence, correction I don't know how to play that game"

This part has to do with being lost in sin, stuck in the cycle of trying to find satisfaction in it and not knowing how to get out.

"A straight line is quicker A straight line would make me fast I've burned my nose enough to know That straight lines never last"

The straight line is the holy life that God calls us all to live, but none of us are perfect. we all stumble and fall. when he says "burned my nose," he's talking about falling on his face. Satan has tricked him into believing that God's will for his life is just not worth the effort.

"Swallow your soul, drink from this life As you choke on your pride We all look elsewhere We all look elsewhere"

HowIChoose2Live, you pretty much nailed this part. "we all look elsewhere"...that means that we're always looking somewhere other than where God wants us for satisfaction.

"It's safer inside doors Nobody has to flee A broken vessel passed the rocks and out to sea [he has drifted very far into his sin pattern] Waiting, wanting, mad with purpose Now we come to talk to one Who has the answers to how" [he has realized that his sin holds no lasting fulfillment for him, so he cries out to God]

Swallow your soul, drink from this life As you choke on your pride Don't waste your time if you've got it The tides are turning now [he's turning around and running full-speed back to God] You are not alone [God's on his side] They gave you their worst and you bought it The lie has been exposed [Satan's lie that your sin can make you truly happy] You are not alone Like winter that comes quick In early September The rain clouds that washed me Are what I remember [i think the rainclouds mean God, or whatever caused him to return to God] The stones that I threw piled high like a mountain Which I had to climb before I reach the fountain [the stones are his sin. he needs to conqer his sin before he can reach the proverbial fountain] If life a riddle then riddle me this The blood tasted sweet as it passed by my lips [his sin tasted sweet while it lasted, but it was killing him all along]

Don't, don't waste your time Don't, don't waste your time Don't waste your time Don't waste your time if you've got it The tides are turning now You're not alone Liar, liar [don't you just sometimes want to scream at Satan "LIAR!"] They gave you their worst and you bought it The lie has been exposed You are not alone

I agree completely with jarofcaly113 except i just have one correction or addition i should say

Like winter that comes quick In early September The rain clouds that washed me Are what I remember

The Winter that comes quick in early September is just out of place and not how its supposed to be, TCC is comparing that to how when we sin, its not how were supposed to be living and it just feels wrong. I think of " the rain clouds that washed me" in more of a literal way of ones sins being washed away.

This song is one of the best anti-drug songs I've ever heard! How many young people look to drugs to solve their problems ... and how many find out the hard way that it's a LIE. If you don't want to see it that way, it's fine, but the reference (Straight line is quicker .... etc;) is to cocaine use and the rest is very much about redemption.
