A summer's drive away from dying
A broken heart, nothing to lose
I know it hurts so bad just trying
To please the ones you hate to love
And I wrote this note
About someone I used to know
So I remember how life can be so short
When you're left alone to wonder
How it is someone opens and shuts the door

And I know you're cold, come home
It's a shame how short we all have come

You set your mind on cruise control
Knuckles grip the wheel
And fear to let it go
Love is empty, love is cruel
Love, it blindly breaks the rules
How could you have been a fool
It's something all of us go through
You choke back tears and swallow lies
But those wiper blades won't fix your eyes
Count on having clouded vision
For at least a little while

And I know you're cold, come home
It's a shame how short we all have come
And I know you're cold, come home
Please don't face the headlights
Of oncoming cars alone

We won't forget the past
We won't forget the past

And I know you're cold
Say all the answers and I will let you go
I won't look back, I won't look back
Say all the answers and I will let you go
I will let you go, I will let you go
Say all the answers and I will let you go
I won't look back, I won't look back
Say all the answers and I will let you go
I will let you go, I will let you go
Say all the answers and I will let you go
I won't look back, I won't look back

Come home
Please don't face the headlights
Of oncoming cars alone
And I will let you go

I definitely agree with Matchbox This is an amazing song... "When you're left alone to wonder How it is someone opens and shuts the door" Very beautifully written and sung.

This song is SO amazing. I listened to it the for the first time and didnt really pay any attention.... But know that I've heard it.... WOW.

I think that basically Matt is reminiscing upon a former love who has died. He is remembering how they "faced the headlights of oncoming cars alone" and wishes that he could have been there.

So he asks them to come back home so he can face it with them, or to give him answers so he can "let you go"....

Think im on the right track folks?

I think the "say all the answers..." part is about how he doesn't want to leave a certain time in his life, and is saying "If you can prove to me this is over, I will move on"

I think this song is about someone that was in a bad break up and doesn't want to live they're life anymore or face they're problems anymore

"A broken heart, nothing to lose I know it hurts so bad just trying"

"Love is empty, love is cruel Love, it blindly breaks the rules How could you have been a fool It's something all of us go through You choke back tears and swallow lies But those wiper blades won't fix your eyes"

and the person singing this song is very good friends or cares a lot about the preson in the bad break up and he's trying to help his "friend" get over it but his friend doesn't want help and just wants to give up or commit suicide

"Please don't face the headlights Of oncoming cars alone"

And the "Say all the answers and I will let you go I won't look back, I won't look back Say all the answers and I will let you go I will let you go, I will let you go"

is about if you can "say all the answers" and work everything out yourself i won't bother you and you can go on with your life as long as you don't give in

matchbox, i think you're completely dead on. I'm going through a bad heartbreak, and this song completely hits every note.

"say all the answers" - the guy is basically asking her to answer the question of whether they'd be together again and he already knows the answer. he just needs to hear it for her to let it go.

"Please don't face the headlights Of oncoming cars alone"

    is definately a suicide plea...

To me this song is about this friend/girlfriend... this guy has.... the girl is going through a hard time... and he wants to help her ut everytime something happens... she draws into herself, making a distance between them... so she goes for a drive to get away when she is upset... all he wants her to do is stay or let him go with her so he can help her.... "don't face the headlights of oncoming traffic alone."

"Say all the answers and i will let you go." he wants her to talk to him... and not just take off again...

Yeah I agree with what a lot of you said, but I want to point out a few other things I've seen that back this up. First of all, The Classic Crime is a band that presents hope in a lot of their lyrics. In order to offer someone hope there must be a them of hopelessness in a lot of things they write. "I know you're cold, come home." really hits this point. When something is empty, it's cold. After you've lost someone you care about, and it's pushed you to the point of suicide (which the song makes apparent at the very beginning with "A summer's drive away from dying.") When someone is going through something painful you want them to know you're there for them. He says the note is about someone he used to know, and that he knows life can be short.

So this is a revelation I haven't seen anyone piece together. This song is a song offering hope to people who are hopeless, and I feel that the person he wrote the song about did indeed kill themselves.

So the song is so emotional because he's lost someone, and he wants the world to know that you don't have to take it to that level when there's pain.

He also offers hope to someone who's going through this pain by saying "Please don't face the headlights of the oncoming cars alone."

It's like saying, "I'll be there for you and with you, no matter what." which is more of the religious aspect of the song I believe. Something present in most of their songs.

This is my first post here, btw, so I hope that analysis made sense.

i agree with many of the things said in the above comments but i'd like to add one point that i don't think anyone else mentioned. the line "please don't face the headlights of the oncoming cars alone" doesnt seem to me as a literal standin front of a car suicide plea...but instead metaphorical. the person in the song is going through a lot of issues in their life and whether they are contemplating suicide or did indeed commit suicide is uncertain though it is possible because of the line "i will let you go" but anyway i digress...back to the point, when he sings "don'te face the headlights of the oncoming cars alone" he is saying "don't face life alone because it is overwhelming and often frightening much like staring into the headlights of an oncoming car, but if we face this together we can make it through"

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
