take this cold body
anoint his heirs
take a dollar for the crossing
from coins in his name

souls slight of coin, slight of name?
then i'll meet you at the back gate
and greet you just the same

tarry to my side
and we'll walk on
to where the frost of the dead king
weigh heavy on the vine

long it's been said
that the worth of a man be his woman
and his lands how he tends

General CommentI can't believe I'm the first to comment on this song! Espers is my favorite contemporary band, but this song just totally blew me away. Acid folk at its best. I've never heard a "bad trip" song quite like this before.

It starts of pretty normal, at least for this band, but between the 3 and 4 minute mark it gets absolutely insane. Probably the best organized chaos of any studio album I've heard. And what IS that instrument that starts around 6:20 and is one of the last to tapper off? It sounds like...I dunno, a distorted BAGPIPE or something (????). The instrumental second half is by far my favorite part, but the lyrics are typical of espers: vague and archaic, almost poetry.
